New York Stock Sales J
NEW YORK. Nov. IB.
The speculative element on the Street was a sain pcrploxed today at tho notion
at the stock market. While nearly all the Interests which had heretofore
controlled price movements wero nggreitslvely bearish In their market vlow und
operations, the Important movements of tho day were to substantially hlRher

stocks sold at tho highest prlcci touched In many years.
The widest movement was In Oulf States Stool, which rose 12 points to 153,
but most Interest was attached to 'the accumulation of American Smelting,
which rose 4 points t 120H, with most of the buying based on statements that
smelting charges will be Increased 40 per cont In December. Marine Issues wore
also active and strong, tho common moving up 3 points to 46 and about the samo
amount of gain was mnde In tho preferred, which crossed 121.
United States Steel common, which closed yesterday at 122. after selling
down to 121H, recovered virtually all this loss. There was a further gain of
more than S points in Atlantic, Gulf and West Indies, which crossed 124. Hock
Island Issues were all weak during the morning, but became strong In tho after
noon. Tho minor steel Industrials wero active nnd strong at frequent Intervals
during the day, with American Can and Republic Iron and Steel In urgent
demand from several sources. A vigorous upward movement was In progress
as the market closed.

Section 30 Mining Company
Incorporated Under the Laws of the State of Minnesota.
A Producing, Shipping Iron Mine Not A Prospect.
No Bonds Authorized Or Outstanding.
Capitalization
$1,000,000 Divided Into 100,000 Shares, $10.00 Par Value.
MINE.
This Company is operating what is commonly known as the famous Section Thirty Mine In
Section 30 63 11, located about four miles cast of Ely on the Vermillion Iron Range of Minne
sota. This property was in litigation for more than 21 years, and the fight was bitterly contested
by many claimants, until under a decision of the United States Supreme Court the title was finally
vested in the present owners. The title is therefore absolutely perfect. It is estimated that more
than a million dollars was spent in the litigation by the various contestants.
MANAGEMENT.
George A. St. Clair, Duluth, is President and Treasurer; Alfred Merritt is Vice - President,
and John G. Williams is Secretary. Mr. St. Clair is in active charge of all mining operations and
has been an independent shipper and miner of iron ores from the Michigan and Minnesota iron
ranges for the past forty years. Mr. Alfred Merritt and his brothers were the discoverers of the
Mesabi Range, the greatest iron mining district in the world and were the builders of the Duluth,
Missabe & Northern Railroad, the greatest earner per mile in the world. I refer to any bank in
Duluth as to their standing and integrity.
DEVELOPMENT.
During the last four years 200 to 350 men have been constantly employed. Several miles of
underground workings have been made in opening the ore body to this date, and over $900,000
in cash has been spent in developing and equipping the mine. The main working shaft is 635 feet
deep and has two main hoisting compartments.
EQUIPMENT.
The mine is fully equipped, including a concrete engine house, double drum hoist, capable of
handling a three-ton skip from the 1,000-ft. level, air compressor of 30-drill capacity, dynamo,
automatic drill sharpener, steam shovel, locomotive, blacksmith shop, laboratory, office building,
concrete dry house, forty houses built to house employees with families, and all other necessary
equipment. The tracks of the Duluth & Iron Range Railroad run direct to the shaft and all ship
ments of ore are made over this road to Two Harbors, Minn.
PRODUCTION.
Shipments of ore up to September 1st, 19 1G, since the opening of the mine have been 832,000
tons, and the list of customers using Section 30 ore includes such concerns as the following:
Federal Furnace Company, of Chicago.
Toledo Furnace Company, of Toledo.
Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company, of Youngstown, O.
Zenith Furnace Company, of Duluth.
Reading Iron Company.
' The average cargo analysis shipped during the season gave Iron 64.70 and Phosphorus .045,
and the non-Bessemer ore gave Iron 59.60 and Phosphorus .072 dried at 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
The records of all ore shipments from the entire Lake Superior region, show Section Thirty Bes-
' semcr ore to be the highest grade iron ore shipped from Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin, with
one exception, namely, the Republic Mine on the Marquette Range of Michigan.

Dear Sir: i
You will recall some time nco our commenting to you upon the very satisfactory results wo wero
RCttlnr; In our furnace with your Section 30 ore.
Since that time wo have been doing some expert mentlng with this ore and In the last few weeks
have Aery materially Increased the proportion of Section 30 In our mixture, reducing our percentage of
Mcsalil ores.
Tho iraults obtained so far aro fully up to our expectations, both In tho worklne of tho furnace
nnd Increased production, but the featuro which appeals most to us Is that since we have Increased our
percentnuo of Section 30, wo have reduced tho Hue dust which blows over about 60. and you can
readily realize tho very great saving we are making through not losing bo much of tho ore through our
down-comers.
Wo cannot speak too highly of tho quality of tho Section 30 ore you nro furnishing us and a fur
nace man should indeed consider himself fortunate to be able to obtain an ore of such high grade.
Yourn very truly.

SALES AGENTS FOR SECTION 30 ORE Plclcand., Mather & Co., Cleveland, Ohio-
An initial offering of 17,500 shares at $15.00 per share was made in Chicago and
Milwaukee lastweek and was quickly taken.
Iron Ore is the most staple of all staple products. It does not burn up, it does not
blow down, it does not blow up, it is not affected by weather conditions, black rust or
boll weevil. There are no present indica'ions of its going out of fashion.
Based on the extremely low capitalization of the Company, its honest management,
its extremely high grade product, its increasing production and the present unprece
dented demand for Iron Ore, I recommend the purchase of Section 30 Mining Company
stock at the market for very much higher rices.
The stock is traded in on the New York Curb and orders must be placed through
your own brokers.
