Touching upon th seventy-eight vinv

would be to consolidate them Into ono large

to show that the field was a fertile one
for such consolldaslon. which at the present
tlmo had become an absolute economlo ne

today was asked: "Knowing that on a
former occasion the Pension Mutual Life
covered up a deficiency by a fake purchase
of bonds which enabled It to pass an ex

It your duty In the present Instance. If
such a method were ngaln attempted, to
find that out? That Is, If the otllcers of
the Pension Mutual should resort to an
other fako purchase of bonds to cover up
tho present deficiency, Is It your business
to find that out?"
Mr. Brown said:
"No. It Is the duty of the Insurance
Commissioner to find that out. and even
in the case of the purchase of bonds from
Dohcrty & Co. It Is a question whether the
notea given did not constitute a legal
purchase."
