waa frustrated In the nick of time by secret
gents of the Allies, became known here to
ay. Two men, named Hoffman and Ca
puto. were arrested In Athens accused of
the conspiracy and turned over to the At
Mxl military authorities.

The "Oreek revolutionary government,

mation calling to the colors the military

Greek soldiers are now co-operating with
flha Trench and Italian forces In Athens. A
dispatch from the Greek capital today said
that Greek cavalry Is patrolling the streets.
A body of Groek reservists was parading
the 'Athens streets and shouting "Long live
the King I" In front of the Municipal Dulld
whan It was charged by Greek cavalrymen.
The mob dispersed, but later another col
lected and began shouting protests against
the landing of Allied troops. This mob was
then charged by the Greek cavalrymen and
put to night
Vice Admiral D'Artlga Du Kournet, corn
Slander of the Allied bluejackets and ma
rines In Athena and Piraeus, paid another
visit to M. Heradjos, Director ot Political
Affairs. The vice admiral made this defln

There has been a heavy tall of snow In
the Transylvanlan Alps where the Austro
Oerman armies under General von Falken
hayn are engaged with the Russo-Ruma-nlans
over an extended front.
Terrific attacka were launched against the f
Austro-German forces In the sector of
Predeat Pass, In the Trotus valley and the
Usui valley. At some points the Russian
and Rumanian soldiers-were able to reach
the Austro-German lines which led to hand-to-hand
fighting In which heavy losses were
suffered by the attackers.
The situation remains entirely favorsble
for the Teutons at every point, the War
Office states.

In the eastern theater a series of Im
portant successes were announced. New
gains wsre made on tho Btokhod Rlvor.

It has Just been reported that during
tho last great attack the British used
some of the much-trumpeted armored
automobiles, so-called 'tanks.'
Three ot them are lying In front of
our lines. They were destroyed by our

sian counter-attacks broke down with
heavy losses.

southwest of Trebltond) our troops at

advanced post which was almost totally
destroyed and a number of prisoners
