The cotton mar ket at the opening this morning was active and Irregular, with first prices from J to 1( points net higher. The opening feature was a big buying -order In January, partly attributed to cohering ot hedges by south ern spot! houses. ' Local offerings were heavy on the ad vance, and subsequent deliveries showed less strength than the near positions. Liverpool's firmness was attributed to less hedge selling and a ready absorption of such pressure when It occurred. Wall street was a moderate buyer at the start, but offerings Increased materially, and at the end or the first fifteen minutes the market waa off about 13 points from top on January, although still halt a dozen points over last night's close, with Lharpool a fair seller. The market became very firm late In the morning, Reports of unfavorable weather In ths eastern belt and talk of heavy Octo ber exports seemed to stimulate the buy ing. Spot orders were uncovered, as prices worked above 17c for January and all de liveries made new high records, with active months selling 2! to 25 points net higher shortly after midday. Offerings then became rather more liberal and fluctuations early In the noon hour wire somewhat Irregular.
