Qalusha Pennypacker; youngest Union

day at tho Jefferson Hospital. Ho was sov
nty years old and had been 111 at his home,

General Pennypackr could boast of one
of tlo proudest of war records. He enlisted
at the ago of sixteen In the ranks of tho
Ninth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and In less
than four years becamo a brigadier genera").
At tho end of the war he waa retained Jn

with tha rank of major general.
Tho holder of a medal from Congress for
gallant action on the battlefield, General
Pennypacker carried the murks of seven
vrounds received In the Civil War. II saw

to tho Pialtsburg Hospital, whero her case
was dlagnocod und an operation advised.
She was brought to tho University Hospital
In this city. After the operation, two weeks
ago, peritonitis set In, Just when It was
thought she would recover, as the operation
wan considered successful.
Mrs. Smith was born In New York city
In 1865. Sho was Mrs. Marie Ella Weld
before her marriage to Mr. Smith, twenty

an active part In charities nnd women's
clutui of this city, which she represented
