STORIES, INCIDENTS AND PICTURES FROM BOTH HEMISPHERES OF THE AMUSEMENT WORL
PHILADELPHIA
PHOTOPLAY
PARAGRAPHS
The Qtrard Avenue Theater has put Into
effect a new poller, or rather an exempli
fication of the oM policy that had proved
to successful. The photoplay features will
be strong and elaborate and the audevllle
numbers will be Interesting, and many
novelties will be provided, As an added at
traction Tuesday night there la always an
amateur contest; on Thursday night exhi
bition of ballroom dancing for cash prises;
Friday night professional try-outs, and
Saturday evenings Is "Kiddles Night" The
new policy seems to have met with the
approval and support of the large palron
ago of the house, and the bill announced
tor the coming week Is one of exceptional
Interest and entertainment
The Stanley Booking Company announced
the reopening of Its theaters' doors to chil
dren by use of advertising.
In "Shell 4 J," coming to the "Eureka,
there Is not much action on the part of
tho lead, II. B, Warner, but his role calls
for tense, straining work. It Is a good play.
The popularity of C. Chaplin makes It
necessary for his picture to be shown for
two days at the Jefferson.
Harold Lockvood and May Allison will
be seen on the itereen at the Fnlrmount on
Friday In "MlBtor 44." They are sur-
I rounded by Lester Cuneo, tho well-known
I leading man ; Franklin Hall, Yonda Lan-
dowska, Henry Otto, Allcen Allen and Belle
I Hutchison.
The only playhouse In South Phlladel
,phla privileged to provldo Paramount pic
tures Is the Alhambra. For the first three
days of the coming week Dustfn Farnum
appoars In "The Fighting Parson," and on
the came bill will bo Charlie Chaplin, who
seems to have found a character which fits
him best of all of his Impersonation's when
h; appears tn his latest comedy, "The Pawn
Shop,"
A triple bill of more than entertaining
character will t,e the feature of Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday at the Talace.
"The House of Lies" Is the feature. A new
volume of laughter, entitled "The Pawn
shop," brings back Charlie Chaplin, the
prince of screen comedians. The third big
attraction will be tho last episode of
'aiorla's Ilomance," In which Blllle Burke
Is featured.
A double bill will be at the Victoria and
tho variety offered should provo moro than
plentiful to all patrons. As a main attrac
tion on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday
there will bo offered Norma Talmadge In
the Triangle. Flno Arts play, "Tho Social
Secretary." This Is a play entirely different
from any of those In which Miss Talmadge
has appeared. One of the features at
this playhouse which Is attracting much
attention and one creating approval of
lovers of muslo Is the selections rendered
by Dessauer'a Symphony Orchestra, which
has been engaged for the season.
