FRENCH WEDGE ON SOMME
The latest French exploit in the
capturo of a village midway be
tween Comblcs and Pcronne places
them in a position where they can
virtually control the important
highway between Pcronne and
Baupaume, as indicated by the
arrow in the lower part of tho
map. By widchlhfr this wedge they
will threaten the Gcrmari positions
north and south. Moreover, the
Allies are thus brought nearer to
the important railroad supply line
between Lille and Peronne, which
has been of immenso value to the
Germans. The map affords a view
of the entire fighting line north
ward to the isea, the shaded area
representing the ground gained by
the Allies since they opened their
drive in Jply.
Serbians are continuing their advance.
