NEW YOnK, Aug. 30. In tho face of
bullish private condition figures the cotton
market this morning had nn Irregular open
from from 1 point higher to 13 lower, being
generally lower thnn last night.
Tho reason assigned wns unloading be
fore the bureau report, participated In by
Wall street, uptown Interests and commis
sion houses.
The supply was so well absorbed by new
buyers, however, that soon after the open
ing most of tho loss had been regained, and
at 10:20 o'clock tho market was only a few
points under last night's close on active
months.
Todny's reports Included the Journal of
Commerce. G4.3 ; Giles, 64.7, nnd National
dinners, rumored at 62.7.
There was rain In southern Texas and
cool weather in Oklahoma, with Bhowcrs
also In parts of tho eastern belt.
Tho market showed nervousness and Ir
regularity during the morning, but the
fluctuations wcro not as wide as they were
earlier In the week, while spurts of activity
were followed by. porlods of comparatively
quiet trading. In a general way, however,
the tone was fairly steady, and after the
early declines prices rall.ed to about last
night's closing figures on tho more active
months, while October sold four points
higher- Liverpool wan n good buyer of the
near positions, and on the advances there
was ev.dently further realizing for over
tomorrow's Government report. The show
ers reported In the eastern belt were con
sidered favorable, but thero was some divi
sion of opinion as to the effect of the
showers reported In southwest Texas, and
some uneasiness was caused by reports of
tropical disturbance near Jamaica. A can
vass of 64 members of the Cotton Exchange,
as to the showing of tomorrow's Government
report, averaged 63.3 per cent.
