NEW YORK, July 21. The known movements of money at the close of busi
ness yesterday Indicated a gain by the banks of approximately $5,000,000. The
banks on the Interior movement gained 15,047,000, receipts having been $11,150,000
and shipments, including $250,000 transferred to New Orleans, $6,103,000. Gold Im
ports for the week. Including $4,000,000 sent to Philadelphia, totaled $27,000,000.
The Subtreosury proper operations Indicated a loss by tho banks of $32,312,000,
the banks gained $5,369,000 from tho Federal Reserve Bonk. The Federal Reserve
Bank was a debtor at the Clearing House for tho week to the extent of $12,364,000
and a creditor in the amount of $6,995,000. On all operations for the week tho
banks showed total receipts of $62,946,000 and total payments of $47,842,000, leav
ing a net gain of $5,104,000.
Pittsburgh and Lnkc Eric Pays 20 Per Cent. Extra Dividend; Issues New Stock
PITTSBURGH, Fa.. July 21, Tho Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad today
announced that it had declared an extra dividend of 20 per cent, and had author

There was further good buying: of whent

sentiment favored the bull side.
July opened at 11.14, against ll.UK at
the end yesterday, and advanced to 11.14 H ;
September started at 1.15 ft to 11.15,
against S1.16U at the clote yesterday, and
sold up to J1.10M.; December ranged from
S1.184 to J1.18K, against I1.17T4. yester
day's last price, and rose to '11.18.
The market at Liverpool receded' after a
steady start. Foreigners thought that the
reports of rust were being exaggerated and
therefore were not Inclined to purchase
freely. It was believed, howover, that a
largo latent demand existed abroad. Ship
ments from Argentina for the week were
1,618,000 bushels.
The receipts at Minneapolis and Duluth
today were 362 cars, against 125 cars last
year; at Winnipeg 485 cars, compared with
TO cars ; at Chicago 132 cars, against 216
tsars.
Corn advanced on good buying by com
mission houses and fears of congestion In
July. The cash markets were flrm. Spot
.at Liverpool was quiet and lower, but
parcels were Arm and higher. Shipments
tnm Argentina for the week were 2,650,000
bushels. The receipts here today were 338
ears.
Oats were steady. The receipts here today
were 168 cars. Shipments from Argentina
for the week were 1,300,000 bushels.

Estimates ot the net earning ot the
united Slates Steel Corboralton, which will
be Issued next weelc, are now belnfj raised
by Interest In cloeo touch with tho big
corporation's alTalrs. The statement will
be for tho quarter ending June SO last, nnd
the figures now range from $76,000,000-to
$80,000,000. Por tha first three months of
this year the corporation earned I80.Jia.BJi
net, while In the second quarter of 1916 the
net earnings amounted to $27,960.0S5, so
that the results for the three months Just
closed will show enormous Increases In
both Instances.
Attention Is called to the fact that should
the net earnings In the coming statement
reach the high estimates they will be nearly
double the revenues of the first' half of tho
year 1915, when $40,407,864 was earned.
From time to time recently there has been
talk of an Increase In the dividend on the
common stock, or perhaps an extra divi
dend, recompensing stockholders who did
not receive anything when the dividend was
passed. The earnings would seem to Indi
cate that there Is n good chance of action of
this sort when the directors meet next
Tuesday.

Southern Interests and room traders led
tho selling, which was brought about by
tho rains In the southwest, while the con
tinued precipitation In tho central and east
ern districts of the belt was Ignored. The
buying was virtually confined to a prominent
commission houses, and spot Interests after
the call prices of the active months shaded
about two points.
Liverpool cables were better than due,
but were without Influence on tho local
market. The prices at the time of tho
start hero wero 4 to 6 points higher against
expected gains of 1H to 2 points.
The receipts of cotton at the porta for
the day wero estimated at 10,000 bales,
compared with 9660 bales last week, 0170
bales last year, and 1422 bales In 1914,

Shipments of anthracite coal In June, fig

cite Bureau of Information today, showed
that they amounted to 15,636,976 long tons,
which Is nn Increase of 177,366, compared
with the same month of tho previous year.
Tho total shipments for the six months of
1916 cndlrfg with Juno 30 amounted to
33,421,666 tons, compared with 32,328,991
