collection for the Pope, commonly known
"Peter'o Pence," amounted to J17.573.84
In this archdiocese, or more than $3000

loan for the publlo library, and also by
'sanctioning the Mayor's addition of J JO,.

"As I have said. I do not know the ex
aot estimates on the auditorium. But it
may be said. In a general way, that they
will run something over three million. I
take It. that a further loan, for what
ever money will be necessary, will come be
fore the people next year. In the mean
time work is expected to be begun on the
building early this fait
"I think these figures are' conservative
when the faot is taken into consideration
that the coat of the proposed original build
ing in 1111 has risen to something like
13,100,000, and further plans have been
made to Inorease the cost of the library
building."

St. Colmnn's Roman Cathollo Church, Ard
more, died (suddenly yesterday morning
In the rectory from apoplexy. He was
taken 111 on Saturday nleht while at nn Ard
moro lawn fete given for the benefit of the
church, and returned to tho rectory. Later
he was found to be aufferlne; from acute
Indigestion, and tho apoplectlo stroke
caused his death about 4:30 a. hi. yester
day. The Ilov. Father Edwin Franklin, the
assistant to Father Carton, nnnounced the
death of the pastor nt tho services yes
terday morning. v
Father Carton was beloved by his flock,
which has grown under his nine years' min
istration from 200 to about 1700 parish
ioners. Ho organized tho parish and has
labored unceasingly In Its behalf, his most
recent efforts having been given to the
task of augmenting a fund to provide a
new church building.
