NANCY WYNNE TALKS
ON DIVERS SUBJECTS
Activities at' Summer Resorts.
Children in Chestnut Hill
Give Play
Hero tit home, with the thermome
ter In the nineties, one wonders how
there can be activities at the various re
sorts; bjut then Bar Harbor and North
East Harbor and Winter Harbor and all
the other llarboro one might mention, are
not hot. Think of It, my dears; not hot,
llko this beloved Philadelphia of ours,
and eo activities there are and great
plans aro on foot. Up In Bar Harbor,
which really Is a young Philadelphia In
Itself, they have started a Cabaret Club,
which will glvo a scries xf four dances,
followed by some special form of enter
tainment, nest month, The- first ono will
i bo held on Tuesday, August S, and will
, talco tho form of a "Preparedness Ball,"
to bo followed by a "Neutrality Ballet."
Tho second Is to bo a Black and Whltd
Ball, with a musical comedy afterward
nlitled "All Clair do la Lunc." Ono
i would think that this would bo enough
In tho way of fancy-dress affairs, but on
' tho 22d thcro will bo a foto champctro
I with dlvertlssomonts and costumo dances
of tho coutt of Mario Antoinette.
Thoro will bo further excitement on
tho 29th, when a "Follies Ball" will bo
given, with many dlvertlssomonts like
wise, and tho production of tho Oeorgo
Bernard 'Shaw melodrama entitled "Pas
elon, Poison and Petrification."
It eoundB to little Nancy as If there
would bo somo gay Uttlo times at this
1 camo scries of dances, don't you think?
, Tho Edgar .Scotts aro Interested In them,
also Mr. and Mrs. Walter Damrosch. I
hear also that tho Alfred AnBons havo
' given, their names as patrons, thougli
they will bo unablo to attend, as tho Hon.
Alfred Is due to return to England and
tho front very Bhortly; In fact, If I am
not mistaken, they havo already sailed.
' The energetic llttlo kiddles of Chestnut
Hill aro once again chat lty wards In
clined, for yesterday aftcrnon llvo small
girls and boys ptuscntcd a play In tno
garden of the Itobert T. Blcktiells placo
on Highland avenue, charging tho largo
sum of two cents a ticket. "When asked
what they wero going to nppear In, ono
email boy announced, '"Tho Lost Boat,'
by tho famous actor Robert Louis Ste
venson," and looked slightly astonished
that all present smiled faintly. But ho
was as much as ten years old, you know,
and thereforo ho puzzled over what had
made them snicker, and announced, "I
hould havo said writer," which was
protty-good for ten years. Tho two llttlo
Zona girls, Charllo and Lucretia Lan
droth and Thaxter Blcknell took part,
and It was very successful, let mo tell
you, for a weo bird told mo they had
mado as much as a whole dollar and a
quarter. '
Eleanor Flood, who is spending tho
summer at Belgrade Lakes, In Maine, will
go down to posterity us a heroine of no
small famo. This week while bathing In
tho lako tho Uttlo llolileld boy, son of Mr.
and Mrs. T. Dunn Bellleld, of Merlon, fell
Into tho water and had gone down onco
when Miss Flood Jumped In and pulled
him out. Sho Is tho daughter of Mr.

younger sct In that locality.
