NANCY WYNNE IS INTERESTED
IN PLANS OP EMERGENCY AID
Three of the Recently Formed Aid Societies Will Have
Headquarters in the Famous Harrison House
on Rittenhouse Square
IT IS Interesting o learn that on August
1 tho Emergency Aid Society, Pre
paredness League and tho Citizen Soldiers'
Aid will move from their various head
quarters to tho Harrison House, which
has been offered by Mr, and Mrs. Stotcs
bury for a general meeting place. It Is
considered that It will bo wiser to havo
thcso three works, which nro so Inter
woven, under tho same roof, so that when
it Is necessary for them to havo co
operation thcro need bo less red tape nnd
quicker servlco will bo available. Cer
tainly Mr. and Mrs. Stotesbury have been
tnarvclously devoted to their fellow beings
tlnce tho ncctla of Buffering humanity
havo been so urgent, both abroad and at
home. When they woro flrst married they
did so much entertaining thoso who did
not know tho former Mrs. Cromwell were
Inclined to think that she loved that
kind ot thing, but sho was only In tho
city a short time when all began to real
lzo that hero was a splendid, strong
woman ready to holp her follow crea
tures with tho vast amount of this world's
goods which had beon given Into her care.
Sho has taken tho lead In almost every
good work which has started In this city
slnco sho camo here, and has been an
example vatul Inspiration to tho many
women associated with her. Then think,
too, of tho other sp'ondld women who
glvo not only ot their money and good
will, but of their valuable time, Surely
Mrs. Willis Martin li an cxamplo of which
this city may well bo proud. Thoy tell
mo that sho presides over tho Labor
Bureau In person every day from 9 until
6 o'clock. Just taking one hour off for
lunch llko all tho other women who work.
Such selt-sacrinco cannot help but bring
a. blessing In Itself on thcso devoted
women.
Dr. nichard Hartc, who Is head of tho
Red Cross, Is also to bo head of tho
thrco aid societies.
Speaking of tho Emergency Aid, havo
you heard that Mr. Tom Itoblna has
written a book on tho subject of that
organization? And it seems It is consid
ered fho best of Its kind, because It has
given work to tho needy rather than mado
them objects of charity. Tho Emergency
Aid Is now a Stoto organization, and has
tho reputation of being the only aid that
has been worked successfully In every
way In any country.
Tho cool, shady porches at Manhelm
we'ro filled on Tuesday, "Ladles' Day,"
with a largo number of members and
their friends, for, notwithstanding tho In
tonso heat, tho attractions at that llttlo
club grow greater nnd greater. Tho usual
Wednesday evening dinner-dances nro to
continue throughout tho summer, nnd last
night's was very well attended. Tho
board of governors of tho Ccrmantown
Crlckot Club Includes Edward W. Clark,
president; Charles Gibbons Davis, flrst
vlco president; William B. Kurtz, second
vlco prcsldont; Joseph Wayne, Jr., third
vice prcsldont; George Purvlanco, Jr., sec
