"aa ams - M. 1 EVENING LEDGEK-PHILADELPHIA, FRIDAY, JULY 7, 191G. v- t-Uh, ?' I? tto lb ft? a ft R I SUNDAY ORDER STARTS SHORE BATHE hotels and Cabarets Say They Will Disobey and Go to Courts ATLANTIC CITY, July 7.Th6 Usual JnleSsummer wrangle, over Sunday amuse ments has started again. Last night orders irera Issued from the City Halt that all Amusements should be closa Sundays from midnight to midnight None of the piers or theatres giving Sun day "sacred" concerts and none of the mo-tlon-plctUrs theatres received the notice, but the hotels and cabarets which furnish musto for the entertainment of their guests did. The orders also apply to games such as skceball, plngpong and bowling. Interviews with the managers of many of the amusement places show that most of them will refuse to obey the order unless all theatres, piers and motlon-plcturo houses are brought under tho ban. They eay that the' amended city ordinance, which allows such places to keep open and make It a mis demeanor" for other amusements to run, Is Illegal as class legislation, A right Is now on In the Court of Errors nd Appeals of the State against this ordl nan.ee. A decision will not be rendered until September, Under tho ordinance passed a year ago the owners of amusement places may be flncd from 1 to $200 for each offense and Imprisoned for 30 days If the .fine Is not paid. Several managers said they would keep open and If flncd would appeal, thus stavlnff oft further prosecutions until late In the autumn. Every form of amusement has been al lowed to run wide open since Easter, this being the flrst effort of the new adminis tration to close up any amusements on Sunday. All of the managers have been endeavoring to appease the church people by running their places as quietly as pos sible on Sundays. Several of the larger places have kept closed until 1 o'clock on Sunday afternoons.
