I could not think what had struck many
Cf our smart girls on Saturday. I was
waiting for a car at Broad and Chestnut
gtreets about noontime, and I saw no less
' than four of them dressed In khaki uni
forms for all tho world like "snojors,"
with reguar army hats and greenish
brown flannel shirts. The hats wero tied
-with cords and had In brass letters
1 N S. S. on the crowns. They woro
lyings, too, and suddenly I realized
that It was Navy Day, and, as one
"rooky" had said to mo before departing
for the camp held Bevcrai weeics ngo in
ChBvy Chase, they were going down to
tho navy yard to "qunrterlzo" tho wounds
of the "snojers" In tho terrible sham bat
ti which took placo there. Mind you,
about twenty-four lady rookies were en
titled to Inter Into tho Red Cross tent and
bind up and pqur In oil on tho wounds of
the (n)heroes, who soemed to bo wounded
much more frequently than was neces
sary. By the way, 1 N. S. S. means First
