FISHING FROM BOARDWALK
POPULAR AT STONE HARBOR
Anglers Report Big Catches on the
Beach Front
STON'13 HAItnon. N. J., June 10. Stone
Harbor has long been famous for Us fish
ing. During the last month, however, since
tho new Boardwalk has been built, the
popularity of Great Channel, which has
hitherto been the recognized fishing ground,
has been shared with tho beach front. Surf
fishing, with rod nnd reel, with tho fisher
men nttlrcd cither In n bnthlng suit or
rubber boots, linH been the recognized form
of ocean-front angling, but to fish from an
elevated sidewalk, built directly over tho
surf, Is quite another and moro comfort
nblo form of pastime. Every dny tho num
ber of fishermen along tho boardwnlk In
creases and some splendid catches are re
corded. One group of three Philadelphia
anglers last Sunday hud over two dozen
superb lclngflsh In their basket nets. They
are consldord a great delicacy, wholesaling
for 22 cents a pound In New York, belhg
used by expenslvo restaurarts and hotels
for crab meat.
Miss M. I,. Van Thuyno, clerk of tho
school board, visited Trenton Tuesday to
engage a teacher on domestic science, which
has Just been added to the grammar and
manual training courses of the Stone Har
bor Public. School.
Arrangements are being made, whereby
Stono Harbor Is to enjoy tho muslo of Its
local band this summer, the staff of which
will be augmented by some professional
players. A schedule of concerts Is being
arranged and plans made for the erection
of a band stand either on tfye new Board
walk, whero It could servo as a pavilion
also, or on the plaza, at OCth street and
1st avenue.
