NEW YOHK, Juno 10.
The results of two ballotB at the Chlcngo' convention dampened somo of the
enthusiasm which hnd been created on tho Stock Exchango )n the Into trading
yesterday, and this morning trading wns Hat and little Interest was shown In
speculative operations. Brokers and customers devoted all their attention to
discussing prospects of results when balloting Is resumed this afternoon.
Somo of yesterday's buyers were sellers of stocks In the first hour, causing
moderate recessions In the actlvo Issues, but these losses wero offset by gains
In several specialties. The plank In tho platform favoring our mercantile matlno
was an Incentive for somo buying uf l'oclho Stall.
There was a 5-polnt advanco In Texas Company, and Pittsburgh Coal roso 1
point, but movements In other Issues were generally to lower levels, although no
Important losses were recorded. Nearly all these changes occurred In tho IlrHt
hour and from then on business was listless and the traders who could not refrain
from making some doals sold a few stocks.
Tho outlook of tho market now depends wholly on tho maintenance of hnr
mony In the Republican party, and there was a feeling In some of tho Important
financial circles that this could not bo regarded as assured. It Is possible that
before the opening on Monday definite knowledge of the situation In this regard
will bo obtained.

MOTORS TAKE BIG
JUMP ON THE CURB
American Gulf and West Indies
Also Advance in Irregular
Market
NEW YORK, Juno 10. Irregular move
ments were recorded on the Broad Street
Curl; all through the two hours of trading,
with most Interest attached a (fain to the
dealings in the motor stocks. United Motor,
which sold below 72 yesterday, was traded
In this morning at SO to 82 W In the first
hour, but was again In supply and quickly
reacted over I points,
Chevrolet advanced from 2S2 to 259,
while American Motors and Perlman Rim
rose and fell without special reason, ending
with the price below yesterday's final.
All this work seemed to be for the pur
pose of aiding In the distribution of syndi
cate stock, with the expectation that tho
rallies would bring In outside buying on
declines. The United Motor syndicate ror
distributing allotments was wound up yes
terday with a profit of 7 points.
There was special strength In American
Gulf and West Indies, which rose 4 points
to IS 9, crossing the price of tho preferred
stock. Midvale Steel and Cuba Cane Sugar
were in fairly good demand, making frac
tional gains. Cosden OH was the strongest
of the oil stocks, advancing to above 25,
but receded later.

LONDON STOCK aiARKET
Tradlne Is Further Animated Because
of Russian 'Successes at Front
LONDON, June 10. Buoyancy was again
noted In the stock exchange markets today.
Trading- was animated under the Impetus of
further successes by the Itusslan troops.
The gilt-edged section was, strong. Consols
touched 04. There were larre sai.a r
I yearly Treasury bills, .due to rumors of an
iiiwciiuius reuueuon m me rate of interest.
Home rails were In demand, with prior
charge stocks scarce. The American group
was spotted, but firmer In the main, al
though dealings were small.
The tone of Canadians was harder, but
Irregularity prevailed In South American
tines.
There was another spurt In French and
Russian loans, and Japanese descriptions
displayed firmness.
Pending the publication of the report on
the output of gold et the Band last month.
Kaffirs were slow.
Following the setback In the price for the
metal, sliver shares weakened. Hoyal Dutch
moved upward again pn buying by Amster
dam. The maintenance of the 35 per cent
dividend, for the. laysj. year sustained shell
transport and trading shires.

circular letter to .member banks explaining
in detail the new par collection check plan
which Is to bo into effect July 15. A de
scription of the service sets forth the fol

"Since the Federal Reserve Act requires
Federal Reserve bailits to receive checks

the Federal Reserve Doard will not permit
Federal Reserve bankB to pay or allow any
exchange charges, nnd as tho proposed plan
Is a reciprocal clearing arrangement, mem
ber banks must therefore cover at par all

us or for our account, since such checks
will have been accepted by us on deposit at
par.
"Items on member banks In this district
will be forwardejl direct to the paying banks
and will be charged to their accounts on the
second business day after the date of send
ing, thus allowing us time to receive advice
of payment."
Under authority of the Federal Reserve
Act, the Federal Reserve Board has Axed
a service charge of 1 cents per Item, to
be made to the depositing bank and to be
debited to the member bank's account
monthly. No service charge will be made to
