The 73d annual commencement of Vllln
nova College was held this afternoon
In the auditorium of tho college. Twenty
seven students were graduated from the
college department, the largest class yet
turned out from the main line Institution.
One of tho graduates was Jeremiah J
Fogarty, who comes all tho way from Tip
perary, Ireland. He entered Vlllanova from
Ottawa University.
The night nev. Dr. Thoma3 J. Shahan,
rector of tho Catholic University. Washing
ton, presided. The address to tho grad
uates was delivered by Monslgnor Philip
H. McDevItt, of Philadelphia
Eight honorary degrees were conferred
as follows:
Doctor of taws. Martin Maloney, of this
city, a marquis of the Holy Itomnn Em
pire, Dr. Lawronce P. Fllclc, of Philadel
phia, noted specialist In tuberculosis, and
J. Harry Tlcrnan, of New York city, a
county judge In tho borough of Richmond
Doctor of science, Dr. Edward J. Nolan,
secretary of tho Academy of Natural
Science.

Commencement cxorclseH of the Philadel
phia College of Pharmacy will bo held to
night In the Academy of Music. The ad
dress to tho 95th graduating class will be
delivered by tho Rev. Dr. John G. Wilson.
Degrees will be granted to approximately
1G4 graduates, Including five women. One
ot them, Miss Florence McGarrity, Is secre
tary of the class. Most of the graduates
have worked their way through tho hchool,
having been employed In drug stores
Another young woman was among the 11
graduates who qualified as pharmaceutical
chemists. Certlflcatcs of proficiency In
chemistry were awarded to nlna students.
In the food and drug course one certificate
-was granted. Among tho 21 recipients of
certificates In bacteriology wcro 4 women
In all, 104 graduates received diplomas or
certificates.
Howard D. French, president of tho
school, will preside; Class day exercises
were held yesterday afternoon and the an
nual reunion and banquet of the Alumni
Association was held last night In the Hotel
Adelphla. '

fall, He Is Harry C. Hartman, who entered
the Ovorbrook school In 1007, a year nfter
he had met with an nccldcnt In his homo
at Waynesboro, Pa. He Is working his way
by tho sale of magazines and finds his way
about tho city without a guide. He used
Braille textbooks in all his courses. Hart
man Is 21 years old. He Ih third honor
man of his class and will deliver an oration
at commencement.

Camden Portable Schools
To relieve the crowded condition In the
Camden public schools, the Board of Edu
cation will erect 10 more portable schools
before the opening ot the term In the fall.
With a registered list of over 16,000
pupils and 1900 on part time, J. W, F.
Bleadly, the secretary of tha board, states
that conditions have reached the stage
where something must be done to relieve
the congestion. Four of the portable
schools, will bs located at the Mlckle
School, two at the Belderman School, two
at the Bonsall School and one each at the
Starr and the Northeast School.
