NEW TOIIK. Juno 3.
Most of today's operatlonn In the stock market represented pool activities In
tho motor stocks. The consolidations under consideration In this Industrial group
ro Just now assuming' such a largo scopo as to overshadow other factors for the
time, and the only Important movements Ih the two hours of trading was In tho
stocks which arc to be Included In tho new mergers and, consolidations.
Thero were record-breaking advances in Willys-Overland, Chandler Motor and
General Motors on tho Stock Exchange, and similar advances on heavy trading
were noted on tho Broad Street Curb.
Tho necessity' of holding large lines of these stocks Intact mado violent ad
vances easy id effect when tho buying connected with tho consolidations was In
progress.
In the general list thero was a show of strength at tho start, resulting from
hurried buying back of somo stocks which had been thrown over when the first
news of the German naval victory wab received yestcrdn.. but tho gains modo
on. this buying were not maintained and after tho first IB minutes recessions wero
In order.
With tho beginning of tho new week tho Street and financial Interests gen
erally will be called on to devoto most of their attention to developments In con
nection with the Chicago convention. Tho tone of this morning's nows In regard
fo tho political situation did not carry any strong assuranco that results thoro
will bo as satisfactory as had been hoped for, but nil this may change after tho
delegates convene,
Thero waa a further strengthening of tho banking situation to the receipt
of nn additional RSOO.OOO gold from Canada, bringing tho total amount received
on this movement up to abnvn $29,500,000.
Marine preferred moved without regard to tho rest of the Hit and trading in

MOTORS ARE BOOSTED

NEW YORK, Juno 3, The same Influ
ences prevailed on the Broad Street Curb
which were effective in causing advances
In motor stocks on the Nework Stock
Exchange. The United Motor syndicate
continued Its manipulating tactics, placing
orders for thousands of shares In that
stock on which it rose above 25, a gain
of over three points.
The high record for Chevrolet was again
lifted, that stock moving up 12 points to
272 and White Motor gained over one
point. Perlman Itlm and Springfield also
showed a strong tone, making gains of
about two points. The purpose of the ac
tivity in United Motors is plainly distri
bution by the syndicate, and, it Is reason
able! to assume that advances In other
motor stocks are intended to aid in this
distribution.
What will como after the delivery of
United Motor stocks on Tuesday Is hardly
matter of conjecture. Fast precedents
Indicate that after the delivery of the stock
It will be in free supply at concessions.
Movements In other Issues were narrow
nd without much significance. Flemish
Lynn continued in fairly good demand with
some Impressive buying based on the knowl
edge! that the balance sheet of the company
will be Issued on Monday showing the
company to be In strong financial position,
with, cash on hand amounting to more than
$200,000. The formal steps In the Lynn
merger will be taken at the meeting on
Juno 10.
Oil Issues were quiet and without Impor
tant change. Mldvale Steel was inactive.
Cane Sugar continued strong, moving up
en point.

Conditions In the steel market re quiet,
request far quotations nnd time for ne

but the Kuropean consumers nr; not as
anxious to place orders for the future as

NEW YOnif, June J. The fact that

This Improvement was attributed to

tho British treasury believed important
amounts are still held In Grent Britain.
Although tho treasury has been making
salea from time to tlmo In the New York
market, It Is not believed to have anywhere
near exhausted Its acquisitions, and the
new announcement probably does not fore
shadow unusual offerings here.
