Every ono Is still talking of Mrs. Bar-
l Bett's garden party she cavo It, you
Vnow, on Monday. Tho girls left tho
camp at i3 o'clock and were convoyed
In special cars to tho homo of tho General
wd Mrs. Harriott at tho Marino Barracks.
There a reception was held and every
f cn0 had a perfect nmo, even n u am
f ihower all afternoon. Tho Marino Band,
under tho shelter of a marquee, which
! had been erected for tho occasion, fur
t nbhed music. Tho soldlerottos did not
y return to camp until 7 o'clock; then,
! ifter a rather hasty evening meal caton
? In darkness, for the mess tent was not
5 fitted with any lighting fixtures, they
marchod over to tho assembly tent to
1 witness tho antics of numerous members
" of Company A, who gavo a screamingly
' funny circus. A ring naa ueon cicarea
In tho middle of tho tent and here tho
I Iniented performers appeared. I am told
f that none of. tho familiar essentials of a
v- first-class 'circus tvoro lacking oven to
,v the lndlsponsablo peanuts and popcorn.
f There was a trained elephant, a pony,
l the Siamese triplets, tho bearded lady,
' the fat lady, a Chlncso magician and,
4 beat of all, a ballot girl, stunning In her
1 abbreviated fluffy skirts. Thon thoro was
ilea a take-off on tho different companies

torporal, wcht through the paces squads

the whllo koeplng In perfect "goose-stop."
Our own Marlari Grant and Anno Lewis
made the hit of tho evening at tho ama
teur vaudeville given Friday by tho tal
ented members of Company C. I haven't
been told' of Just what their stunt con
Isted, .but I am euro it must havo
been clover. Little Marian Grant, by tho
way, was ono of those who "went out"
for the baseball team, although Company
B's team failed to materialize and so the
expected match did not tako place. Speak
ing of Company C reminds mo. that two
of tho ofllcors of that company wcro Phil,
adelphlans Sergeant Foster and Ser

Betty and spent several days In Wash

other fond relatives, didn't understand
why she could not run in to town at any

J On dlt, Georgia Schofleld, who as cap

disciplinarian, camo In quite lata last
Eaturday after having secured leavo
to attend the game at Annapolis It
seems shd missed her train and was ab
ject over this breaking of tho rules but
It rather afforded nmusoment in tho
camp. She and her drill sergeant, how
ever, have turned out a corking company
even If their drilling was a trine strenu
ousfor soma orio tells mo that several
sprained ankles havo boon sustained
owing to the swift maneuvering over
rough ground and they may well bo
proud of the appearance of their recruits
when on pa'rado.
In tho competition drills Jjeld on Mon
day to determine tho Yjnnlng company
they ran close to Company D, which was
awarded tho prize. Mrs. Charles Belk
nap, Jr., or 1700 Pino street, was captain
of the latter and put her recruits through
their paces so .well that they finally won,
with J284 points to their credit. Com
pany Q came In with, 1260 points. Mrs.
Delknap was ono of the most popular
officers In tho camp. and her "men" adored
her.
Champ Clark was the principal speaker
at the Memorial Day exercises yesterday.
It seemed a fitting time to hold the clos

the National Service School's first en

many similar camps are being planned,
notably one near Valley Forge in tho au

another .camp, to begin tomorrow near
lavale, in tho hill country of New Jer.
ey, under tho direction of General Q, Z.
Hee.ver, U. S. A., retired. Miss Candaee

of this second camp, which will bo. mod
eied on the lines of the Chevy Chase
wmp, but will include, In addition to tho
military training of tho latter, ' riding,
