, NEW YOItK, May 29,
With tho approaching holiday, It was expected that business on the" Stock
Exchange would be flat today and that tho room traders would exert their efforts
to forco prices to lower levels. It seemed, however, that their energies had been
exhausted by the aggressive selling on Saturday and today's stocks were In scant
supply, oven from this source.
Thero wore evidences of nccumutatlvo orders In many stocRs, Indicating that
shot tho holiday a brisk demand will be In order, and the changes noted on tho
limited trading during the day wero In ncnrly all cases to higher figures.
Lehigh Valley was tho cause of a good deal of conjecture because of Its
s advance of i point, but It was Insisted that Lehigh Valley always acts In this
Way prior to tho regular dividend declaration. Shorts In Heading looked for uut
feldo selling and when they found an absence of selling orders some of tho bear
traders started to caver, causing an upturn of more than 2 points In tho prlco of
that stock, on which it clossed 102.
"What the trading clement has to look forward to was shown In the Increased
regular dividend and extra dividend payment on Chandler Motors, which rose 4 '4

I significant feature of the trading was the fractional advance In Pennsylvania.
Tho fact that that stock sold at B8 should bo regarded with more importance than
ahy of tho previous movements In these shares.
For a long time Pennsylvania has been In supply for foreign account, about
200,000 shares of this stock being sold since March 1 by a single firm, but this
nelllng has been absent for more than a week, nnd It was said today that largo
blocks of stocks which had been held here by banking agents have been sold by
private contract and aro no longer hanging over the market.
Leo Tiro responded to reports of a coming combination and advanced 2 points
to 62. Norfolk and -Western was another strong feature, advancing moro than 1
jpolnt to above 127.
