NEW YORK COFFEE MARKET
NEW YORK, May 26 There was re
newed liquidation In tho market this morn
Ing and prices at the opening were 6 to 7
points below the final price of yesterday.
The selling was bly the same broker who
sold most of the coffee yesterday, and,
white some of It was thought to be for for
eign account. It was the consensus of opin
ion that most of the pressure was in the
form of local liquidation. There was no
particular change In tbe news, although
Brazil seemed a trifle easier, and It was
thought that the selling had been prompt
ed largoly by technical conditions and by
the failure of the peace rumors to assume
anything In the way of definite indications.

PREDICTION OF RAIN IN TEXAS
HELPS COTTON AFTER DECLINE
Early Drop, Caused by Heavy Selling;,
Following Steady Opening
NEW TORK, May 26. At the openlns
this morning- the cotton market was quite
steady at an advance of 3 points to a de
cline of 1 point, being; affected by steadiness
in Liverpool and further peace rumors, but
the market met rather heavy selling which
eventually sent the whole list off 3 to 4
points under last nlsht's close.
Later the market steadied several points
on the prediction of local map readers that
ir the low temperatures north of the West
ern belt worked Into Texas, following re
cent high temperatures, they may produce
showers, which, according- to advices from
Texas this rnomlng, would i work great
danger to cotton.
Fluctuations were narrow during: the mid.
die of the morning. The early decline of
1 to 5 points, was followed by rallies which
carried the new crop positions 3 or 3 points
over last night's closing figures, while July
was relatively easy under continued liquida
tion and sold about 10 points under Oc
tober, Tho market showed a better tone around
midday. The selling movement this morn,
ing was much less active, suggesting that
scattering liquidation had been pretty well
completed; and whits there was no change
In the favorable character of weather and
crop news, prices rallied on covering and
a little support fron) trade sources.
July contracts were rather slow to ad
vance, but worked a couple of points over
last plant's closing figures, while later de
liveries sold 4 to 7 points net higher,
