CHICAGO. May 18. Mora courage was
noted among the bears In the wheat market
today than In some time, and tho tone was
weak. Important longs cut down their lines
because prospects for an Immediate advance
did not appear to be bright.
Toward the close liquidation became ur
gent and prices sagged rapidly, reflecting
better crop advices and a lack at outside
support due. It was believed, to rumors ot
peace that have been circulating for sev
eral days.
Unfavorable crop news was not lacking,
but It failed to help the demand. Higher
temperatures were predicted. Bears In
sisted that the outlook In principal pro
ducing sections of the winter belt were not
as bad as had been painted and asserted
that conditions In the Northwest would Im
prove with warmer weatne"?.
The market at Liverpool was easy, and It
was stated that no apprehension was felt
there over tho absorption of cargoes from
Argentina and Australia by the continent,
th United Kingdom's receipts being liberal
with large reserves In Canada.
Corn also weakened after having ruled
compartlvely steady. The market nt Liv
erpool was easy and the 'outlook for the
oyi here better.
Oata suffered with the other grain's. Gen
erul trade was not large. Prices abroad
ruled firm.
