April 22 With Explosives in Cargo
Shipping men hero aro at a loss to ac
count for tho whereabouts of tho Nor
wegian steamship Colombia, which Balled
from this port on April 22 with a cargo
of explosives and Iron pipe. According
to a message received at tho local tfy
drographlo Office, the vessel Is now about
a week overdue at Cartngena, Colombia.
from Santiago do Cuba. Her owners have
requested all craft to keep a lookout for
her.
"When tho vessel sailed from Philadel
phia sho was In command of Captain
Simmons and was to make the ports of
Santiago, Cartagena and Puerto Colom
bia. Her cargo consisted of GOO cases of
dynamlto, 80 cases of rifle powder and 76
cases of golatln. Sho also had 301 tons
of Iron wator plpo for tho Colombian
Government, which was shipped from
Florence, N. J and 13 part of a largo
lot bought by that Oovernmont.
Tho Colombia was reported as sailing
from Santiago for Cartagena May 2. Sho
should have reached tho port for which
Bho sailed two days later. It Is feared
that tho vessel and her crew have been
lost. Tho torpedoboat destroyer Conyng
ham, which Is In that vicinity, has been
notified by wireless that tho craft Is miss
ing, and has started a search for her. ,

was badly damaged by gun flro during a

day. The German Admiralty gave out tho
following statement:
"Two German torpedoboats, whllo recon
nolterlng north of Ostcnd on Monday,
fought a short engagement with flvo Brit
ish destroyers. One destroyer was heavily
damaged by artillery flro. Tho German
torpedoboats returned to port undamaged."
