Philadelphia since February 3, when he
left on a flO days' leave of nbsence. Until
vtoday, when the le'tter announcing his
success and tendering his resignation
reached Lieutenant Itearn at the police
Blntlon, Brannan had maintained a stony
silence.
But In the three months he was nway
Brannan succeeded In acquiring, accord
ing to his letter, "n third Interest In nine
Claims which are being mined for lead,
stiver and lnc" The claims nre near
Kingman, Arlc., and within 25 miles of tho
gold fields near Oatman. Arte. Ore In
paying quantities Is being taken out of
most of tho nino Claims, Brannan says.
Brannan announces definitely lis is not
contemplating matrimony. "I came out
hero to make money," he says, "and I'm
making it. Don't think I'm going to get
married, for I'm not.'
Brannan, who was well liked at the
Park and Lehigh station, sometimes told
his friends tho plans he had In mind for
making a fortune. He saved his money,
and. his friends gathered. Invested in Homo
mining properties before ho left Phila
delphia. Brannan gained his knowledge
of Arliona when he was stationed nt vari
ous posts In tho State while he was In
the United States Army. Ho enlisted In
the army after" service In the Spanish
American war. Brannan Joined the police
forco eight years ago.
