tWALL STREET RELIEVES WORST
PHASE OF SITUATION IS OVER
Whatever Change Comes Now Must Have Favorable In-

IJF r
' NEW YOHK, May 8.
, The stock market tone today wan determined by the comments In tho morn
ing press, nnd tho complexion of editorials published throughout the country
w&u the sole factor in creating a belief that tho worst phase of tho German
diplomatic situation had been passed and that whatever clianBe may como from
wasningion must nave a favorable Influence.
It was assumed at the beginning of business yesterday that tho wording of
the German note prevented It from being received with good grnco by tho Admin
istration, and Wall street was uncertain today whether to look for Its acceptance
or not. Tho uncertainty, however, was passed over as an Influence on market
Sentiment.
Tho general opinion from tho strongest, quarters was that the market haw
turned hnd that not even a check to tho accumulation will result from any action
the Administration makes, Tho only uneasiness shown was by the bear element.
Tho Increased short Interest created yesterday made tho bear position still
more vulnerable and tho problem is presented to the shorts of conducting cover-
... -.uiieranuus )u competition wmi buying by both large and small Interests
throughout the country.
Instead of considering the diplomatic outlook financial Interests. Investors
and a strong speculative clement arc now devoting nttcntlon to tho changed
dividend position of many Issues In tho Industrial group and to dividend pros
pects of leading railways.

The Bank of North America
JTThe Bank of North America is the oldest Bank in
'America. It was chartered by the Continental
Congress in 1781, at the critical period of the Revolu
tion, eight years before the Constitution of the United
States was adopted. Through its aid troops were en
- listed, and arms and ammunition were supplied to the
struggling Continental army.
f In 1864 the Bank of North America became a Na-
tional Bank, and ii view of its services to. the
nation the Comptroller of the Currency allowed it to
TJtatn-rlv internal title. It is today the onlv NatRffiar M
Bank without the word "National" in its najne,
