port In their various undertakings.
There will bo a muslral program to
night rit the reception, which Is sched
uled for 8:30 o'clock.
While on tho subject of the Operatic
Society, Uh no.xt performance will bo

bo a decided departure from Its usunl
work, In that light opera will replace
grand on this one occasion, for tho pro
duction will bo a revival of Reginald
do Koveh'a opera of "Robin Hood,"
which Is one of the most tuneful nnd
charming of comic operas, and Is quite
beyond tho usual llglk opera In musical
value.
Tho performance will be given at the
'Metropolitan Opera House on May 11.
With the starting of the race meets I
and other out-of-doors affairs., now that
spring Is trying to stay with us, house
parties will bo the order of the day In
society. That genial host, John Valen

Songs and Dnnccs
Tho Philadelphia Music Club, the mem
bership nf which comprises a largo num
ber of women prominent In local music
nffnlrs. offered a unique spring entertain
ment Inst ovcnlng In tho little theatre.
It was billed as "An Evening In Ancient
Greece" and enlisted the co-operntlon of
Mary Stewart, premiere danscuso; Mrs.
Albert Schmidt. Mrs. Archibald Itubnrd,
and Miss Elizabeth Calhoun, soloists; nnd
a hovy of 50 young women as choristers
and dancers. Edith A. Push, who directed
i tho performance, devised 'tho production,
, designed tho costumes, arranged tho
dances nnd composed tho music, and dc-
serves a great deal of credit for the tasto
and originality displayed In every detail.
The graceful raiment of Hellenic youths
and maidens as shepherds, bacchantes,
etc., mado a colorful moving foreground
against tho nustcro setting of black
drapery which backed nnd framed tho
various pictures of classic dance nnd
plastic posing. Tho figures and group
ings were frco and flowing In their at
tendant gestures nnd postures nnd tho
enactment was enhanced by admirable
lighting effects. Tho performances In
their grace and ease nt rhythm realized
very fully tho poetry of motion and gavo
the beholder a very ndoquato impression of
the danco In heroic Greece. Tho six scones,
divided into two groups, portrayed tho re
ligious and social phases of Greek life,
particularly the worship of Demeter,
Dlonyslos nnd Apollo.
Tho music was In harmony with tho
motif of tho entertnlnment. Properly
enough, only harps and flutes were used
to accompany tho songs, which wero set
to Dorian lyrics and odes of Sappho and
Pindar.

gave his daughter In mnrrlage. She was
attired In a gown of bridal satin, with
trimmings of duehesse lace and pearls,
and a veil of tulle, caught with oratigo
blossoms. Her only ornament was a dia
mond brooch presented to her by the bride
groom. A shower nf white roses nnd lilies
of the valley was carried. Miss May
Sclmman. tho maid of honor, wore a shell
pild satin frock, draped with tulle, with
a smart poke bonnet of silk tulle, nnd car
ried a shower nf pink roses nnd snap

Pauline White were bridesmaids. Their
frocks were of taffrin. trimmed with tulle,
one In pink nnd the other In blue, wearing
