WILLIAM PENN GIRLS
SHUN SCHOOL COURT
That Is Why Conduct of Stu
dents Is Superb and No
One Chews Gum
As time goes on It becomes more evident
that no one of the 1600 girls who are
students at the William Ponn High School,
16th and Mt. Vorhon streets, will ever bo
tried by a Judge and Jury. No graduato
of tho school has ever faced anything
more serious . than .Jin art Jury, and the
great majority not oven that. Tho under
graduates are going tho same Innocent
way.
Yet thero lo a judgo and Jury ever
ready to convict nny student. Tho Judge
Is a girl student and tho Jury Is composed
of girl students. Tho first prisoner who
appears will bo convicted : thero is no
question about that ; they have been wait
ing too long for an offender to let the long-wlshcd-for
trial develop Into tho fiasco
of.an acquittal. Guilty or not gullty,,th
verdict will bo guilty. This business of
watting for a prisoner gets on one'a nerves
aftor a while, they say.
The institution of a student court has
been In effect at the school for four weeks.
It Is In the nature of nn honor system, tho
court being really a grant of student self
government. But all the fun of the Idea
oft Judging and condemning one's fellow
girls went nut of tho scheme when It waB
found no one would consent to be bad
enough to bo brought before the court.
Tho latter Is composed of six girls. A
wave of superb conduct has swept over
the school with the inauguration of the
court. No ono has even chewed gum.
For the Babies
A benefit under tho auspices of the
Philadelphia theatre managers will be

this noble work the theatre managers will
