Democratic leaders' proposition to tax munitions. Other war order stocks were
freely sold during the afternoon for tho same reason, anil there was renewed
selling of Dom Mines, which had been unsettled last week by the Canadian tax
program. Outside of these Issues, the lato market tone was listless unci trading

Atlantic and Pacific Steamship Initial Dividend on Common
Tho Atlantic and Pacific Steamship Company declared an Initial dividend
of 5 per cent, on the common stock, payable March 1 f to stock of record March
1. Tho company also declared a dividend of 3& per cent, and nn extra ,T,4
per cent. In payment of accumulated dividends on the preferred stock, payable
March 1G to stock ot record March J. Year ended December 31, 1915: Net
earnings from voyages, ?tilfi,L'C7: bond Interest, $102,000: dividends, $70,000;
reserve for depreciation, $2!il,400; total deductions, $1L':I,-I00: surplus, SISL'.SfiT;
prfcvldus surplus, $170,072: reserve for depreciation, $100,000; preferred dividend,
$70,000; profit and loss surplus, $102,939.
Pittsburgh Coal Readjustment Plan
The ofllcial announcement to holders of preferred and common stock of tho
Pittsburgh Coal Company in its plan of readjustment sars:
"Holders of 7 per cent, cumulative preferred stock of the New Jersey com
pany will for each $100 (par value) of such stock and nil nccurcct dividends
thereon amounting as of January 1, 1918, to $4 t.R8 1-3 per share, reeolvo i per
cent, cumulative preferred stock of the Pennsylvania company to tho par valuo
of $133.33 1-3. Holders of common stock of the Now Jersey company will for
each $100 (par valuo of such stock recelvo stock of tho Pennsylvania company
to tho par valuo of $100."
Increased Dividend by St. Joseph Lead .
Tho St. Joseph Lead Company declared a dividend of 2 per cent., paynblo
March 20. Hooks close March 9 and reopen March 21. Three months ago the
declaration was Hi per cent. Tho company reports for tho year ended Decem
ber 31 last net protlts of $1,283,429, compared with $2,317,010 in 1914 nnd surplus
for dividends $2,S53,SG3, against $1,031,972 in the previous year.
Southern Hailwny Not to Sell .More Rotids
NEW YORK. Feb. 21. In well-informed circles regarding tlio affairs of the
Southern Itallway Comjwny it was stated that there is no foundation for the re
port that tho company is about to dispose of n large part of its development and
general mortgage 4 per cent, bonds, of which there are approximately $138,000,000
unissued, $01,333,000 now being outstanding.
