WrlRht.
An amuslnR story reached my cars
yesterday about a well-known lad of
this town, who now and again approved
of bavInR a Rood Httlo tlmo nil to blm
rolf, and did not mind occasionally
having some ono of tho fair sex enjoy
this Rood Httlo tlmo with him. As ho
walked up Walnut street on vnrlous
occasions, ho noticed an extremely
emart-IooklnR Rlrl, who did not show
any great indignation when ho finally
epoko to her after tneetinR her many
times; so they talked, nnd then ho
suggested that somo evening they
might hnvo supper together nt ono of
tho hotels, to which alio acquiesced
with alacrity Well, tho evening enmo,
nnd tho lady met him at ono of our
foremost hotels and they had a cozy
Httlo supper together. Tho fair dam
pel was most oxaulsltely frocked, and
the youth began to scent a mystery and
romance, thinking sho must bo one of
tho few 400 ho had not happened to
meet at tho different parties. Soon,
however, a woman enmo In with n
party of friends for supper, and, lot mo
whisper It to you, sho Is ono of tho
most prominent women In tho town.
Bho looked over nt our Riiy youth, and
began to laugh, though she bowed very
liveetly to him: then sho spoko to
her neighbor, who. In turn, spoko to
his, and nil tho guests began looking
over at tho youth nnd laughing. Ho
decided bo did not care; tho girl with
him was .1 beauty nnd dressed in e.
(luisito taste, so ho tried to appear In
different. Tho prominent woman, how.
tver, know him very well, so she. ven
tured to send him a weo noto which
read, "Dear , It certainly is sweet
of y(l to tukr my maid out to dinner;
but I can't qulto seo why you let her
wear ono of my best gowns."
