Sons of America, 150 Sons of Veterans
and about U0 G. A. R. veterans.
The evangelist besought them to put

the greatest preparedness that this coun

Decline of Grip Epidemic Results in
Corresponding Fall in Mortality
Figures
A decrease In the city's death rate Is
reported today by the division of vital
statistics of the Bureau of Health. Deaths
from all causes during tho week total but
Mr, as compared with (!77 during the last
week In January. The Improved health
conditions In the city aro attributed to the
grddual decline of the pneumonia and
grip epidemic.
Deaths from pneumonia, total 38, tho
smallest number reported for the past six
weeks. Only 70 new cases have been re
ported as compared with 03 last week.

Miss Grace Francis to Be Buriejl
Monday
The funeral of Mlsi Grace Francis, who
killed herself following an unhappy lovo
affair, will be ited on Monday at 12:30
o'clock, the Kev. William Porter Leo con
ducting services In the chapel of an un
dertaking establishment on Germantown
uvenue. He la tho pastor of the Westsltlo
Presbyterian Church, of which Miss
Francis was a member. Services and In
terment will be private. Miss Francis"
father, Henry N. Francis; her sister, Mrs.
James Werner, of Pottstown, Pa,, and
cousins, Mr. nnd Mrs. William Jamison,
of 5019 Wayne avenue, will attend the
funeral.
Miss Francis conducted tbo Francis
Hat Shop, at 68 West Chelten avenue.
Sh was found there yesterday, dying of
gas asphyxiation, and died at the Ger
mantown Hospital. The suicide of Miss
Francis, who was 33 yenra old, wais tlio
result of an unhappy love affair. A man
whom she had befriended and tn whom
she had given sums of money failed to
keen an appointment with her at It hotel
in New York. Realizing that he had de
ceived her, she camo home despondent
and ended her life,

Frederick P. Dleck,' manager of the
Schmidt Brewing Company, member of
many clubs, famous baseb.aU and foot
ball fan, and known all over the city for
his smile, which was as big as he wns
around, died suddenly this morning at
the home of his sister. Mrs. Charles Is
rael, of 133 Bast Durham street, Mount
Airy. Mr. Dleck had been In the beat
of health, except for a alight cold, up to
yesterday morning, when he was found
unconscious In his bed. Physicians said
an abscess had been formed In his ear.
He scarcely regained conscloiumed 1
day yesterday, and died with the xact
cause of his sudden collapse unknown.

Mr. Dleck was connected with the
Schmidt Brewing Company for tnore than
20 vcars. Ho was n member of the famous
Broilers, one of the llvest dining clubs
In the cllj'i and also belonged to tho
Elks, the Turngcmclnde nnd the Phila
delphia Rifle Club. He was born n Phll
adelplila and attended school at the Cen
tral Manual Training School. Even at
that age ho was almost an broad n.i lie
was toll, which was 6 feet, and ho was
n terror In nil athletic sports. Since his
schooldays he has always been a frantic
fan at all kinds of sports, uom uny mm
night. Local fans got to know him at
ball games by his trtimpct-llkq voice ami
his humorous roars. He weighed nearly
S0 pounds and was more thnn ( feet tall,
so that it was it common joke In the
newspapers that "Fred" Dleck occupied
all of section C nt tho game. His good
humor and wide smile made hundreds of
frluids for' him all over the city during
his life. Ho was 41 years old and n
widower, his wife having died two years
ago.

son Drake, 73 years old, art director of tho
Century Magazine from 1S70 until 1313,

lountry, nnd was largely Instrumental In
bringing about the new school of wood
engraving.
Mr. Drake became Interested In wood
engraving In his youth nnd also studied
nil and water color painting. After teach
ing drawing at Cooper Institute for a
tlmo he went Into business for himself ns
a wood enginvcr In 1SG3, taking up maga
zine work five years later. He was the
author of several short stories and poems.
Howard Davis
BORDENTOWN. N. J.. Feb. 8. How
ard Davis, proprietor of the Bordentown
House, died last night, aged 3G years. He
was a grandson of Ihe late Colonel Levi
Davis, who had previously owned and
kept the hotel. Mr. Davis' mother died
six weeks ago. He leaves a widow and
two little (laughters.
