Chamber of Commerce, tho Philadelphia
Urnmber being tho first to adopt the Idea.
The members of tho chamber nro classi
fied Into groups, each group representing

he Members' Council and In addition they
have regular stated meetings, where mat
tors of Importance pertaining to their par

Trade was on an enormous scale. An
early advance at Liverpool added Im
petus to the bulge hero yesterday and
brought a great many buying orders Into
the market from speculators. Yester
day s biggest buyers wer nrnmni .
sell In a vigorous fashion, A leading
campaigner on tho buying side yesterday
was credited with Unloading 2.000,000 bush
els. This was followed by extensive sell
ing from the other sources.
Tho market nt Liverpool also turned
easier on a drop of 9d. In Argentine
freight rates to 160s. 9d ntid Indications
of freer shipments from that coMntry and
Australia. There were rallies at times,
but bulls wero not aggressive.
The spring wheat markets were easier,
and there wero reports of Increased sell
ing by tho country. The weather forecast
for the gicat crop-growing States gen
erally Indicated hlcher irinnrii.u.
Tho price current summary was bear
ish. It is said that extensive damaRo
from whiter killing was problematical,
and that surface freezing did not cause
great damage. Foreign crop advices gen
erally wero favorable. A dispatch from
Kansas City said that elevators there
had about H.000,000 bushels, with 2,CO0.000
bushels on tracks.
Export demand was noor. nml It nvnn
reported that hard wheat was offered at
loner prices at tho Gulf.

gilt-edged section was steady. The neces
sity of an early new war loan was ques
tioned, owing to the Income tax col
lections and an increase In exchequer
bond sales.
Last week's revenue returns were
8,000.000 and the expenditures were
JC2I,000,OW. The amount of exchequer
bonds outstanding was enlarged by
19,000,000, nnd of treasury bills by
6,000,000.

BERLIN, Jan. 19, The weekly state
ment ot the Imperial Bank of Germany
shows the following changes;
Gold reserve, 2,30.200,000 marks, Increased
2.490,000 marks; commercial paper and
treasury bills. 5,360,000,000 marks decreased
23,000,000 marks; circulation and banking
notes. 6,340,000,000 marks, decreased 232..

marks, decreased 15,000,000 marks.
Gold reserve covering circulation and
banking notes Increased from 37 per cent,
to 33.4 per cent. Payments in cash on the
third war loan reached 11,731.700,000 marks.
