NANCY WYNNE WISHES A HAPPY
NEW YEAR TO ALL HER READERS
The Heckscher Ball and the Peppers' Affair Were Huge
Successes Boston Opera Company Returns The
P. Williamson Roberts Entertain Tonight
BEST wishes for a happy nnd pros
porous Now Year nnd many of them
and all that sort of thing, thoso of us
who can bat nn eyelash after seeing tho
old year out and welcoming tho now one
' In last night, will say to each other;
nnd then off to tho Mummers' parade
to watch their usual pranks while Wo
sip eggnog and laugh over tho sights
of tho night bofore, for no matter how
mild our dissipations were, wo all caw
funny goings on. Of course, the fun
was great at tho Heckscher dance,
which, by tho way, occupied tho wholo
top floor of tho Dellovue-Stratford with
two orchestras going, Europe from Now
Vork, and Conrad's of this city, kept
tho ball rolling to tho lato hours of tho
morning and ns lato as 7 a. m. guests
wero to be seen coming out of tho hotel
In fancy costumes- Geo had threo other
men receiving with him, Sam Chase,
Bam Chew and Stevens Heckscher.
Tho Alfred Norrlses gave a dinner for
Dorothy and Susan Druco before tho
ball, their guests Including tho Charllo
Wrights, Antonio Stewarts, Andrew
Wheolers and Harry Hodge, Bob Le
Conte, Harry Drenglo and Mr. X. Con
stantlnldi. Tho debutantes had n wonderful time
at tho Peppers' affair, which was hold
In the ballroom of tho llcllevue-Strat-ford,
which was beautifully decorated
with Christmas greens and New Year's
oddities. Nearly all tho debutantes of
the season wero on hand and voted It a
great success.
Tho Boston Opera Company returned
last night with another performance of
"Madamo Buttorfly" with tho cunning
Japanese prima donna, Tho hous'o was
brilliantly filled as It seemed a splendid
way to spend tho early part of tho eve
ning and tho "Snowflakcs" ballet was
qulto short, so wo nil had tlmo to get
down to tho hotels, etc., for tho mid
night 'hour. Tonight tho opera will glvo
"I Pngljaccl" and tho ballet "Coppella,"
and then Mrs. Scott's Slipper Club will bo
tho chief attraction for tho gay mondc.
, Mrs. Scott Is such a delightful hostess
and theso supper club meeting's aro so
Interesting It has been decided to hold
a second series of 10 dances to start on
January 22, Mrs. Scott has also become
the chaperono of tho Saturday after
noon dansants In tho Itoso Gardens,
Mrs. Temple having resigned from that
post owing to 111 health.
While on tho subject of tho Scotts,
I hear Beth Is qulto one of tho belles
of tho senson. She has tho most won
derful eyes nnd charming vivacious
mnnner and Is n great favorite with
young and old.
Tho W. Howard Pancoasts gave a
breakfast this morning at their homo
on Do Lancey place, and many of tho
Hcckscher's danco guests went to It.
Among them wero the Nod Crorors,
Norman MacLeods, J. It. Evnns Rob
erts, Barklle Henrys, Harry Disstous,
SamfiC'hase, Sam Chow. Mrs. Botty
Madeira, Jtho Georgo Horwltzs and a
host of others.
Tonight tho Petoy Roberts will glvo
rn smau dinner dnnco at tneir nnnci-
some new homo In Vlllanova. They
took tho old Garrett placo thero and
pulled down the house nnd built a
scrumptious new one, which their
guests will novo tho opportunity to'
seo this evening. Mrs. Petey was
Mary Dlsston. a sister of Mrs. Sydney
Carpenter and of Jacob Dlsston, of
Chestnut Hill, and, of course, has qulto
a bit of tho Dlsston millions.
Every one Is laughing very much
HI over a certain small girl who, though
she has not announced her engage
ment (we all hellovo It to be), still
talks all tho tlmo about her wedding
and plans for her bridesmaids gowns
and her own frock. She says, of
course, sho was engaged even before
she camo out, but what Is tho uso of
announcing anything like that and
spoiling a perfectly good time, nnd,
let mo tell you, a perfectly good tlmo
sho Is having, Sho says sho will
probably announco It soon and bo mar
ried in the spring, now that sho has
had u winter out. I think her fiance
Is pretty amiable to stand for It, but,
then, young people do look on a good
time, as thoy call it, beforo all other
things and think thero Is plenty of
time to settle down.
The small girl Is very pretty, has
bright brown hair and very beautiful
soft eyes, and tho dance's name Is tho
same as that of a well-known nnd
very rich New York family.
