Hero is u now plan for a Now Year, It is my New Year's gift to you
and your New Year's Rift to mc. That sounds queer, but just you listen
and you'll see exactly what I mean.
I know that you must have many littlo problems, petty worries, some
vexations and possibly tiny troubles which upset you during the week.
Perhaps it is in school, or home, or on tho street, or somewhere. It is so
very, very hard for grown-ups to realizo that children have their troubles.
I want you to sit down and write to mo all about tho littlo things that
upset you during the week. If somebody has spattered ink on your new
suit, or that beautiful dress you got for Christmas, it will tlo you a lot of
good to sit down and write to your editor about it. It will be off your mind.
Of course, I can't sit down and cry about it because it is not my suit
or my diess, but I will bo just as sympathetic as I can possibly bo and I
will either write you a letter and tell you what to do, or I will answer you
right in this column, and I will not put your namo in or tho namo of tho
awful, awful, naughty boy or girl who did such a dreadful thing.
I do not think there is any such a thing as a bad boy or a naughty girl.
1 am jii3t putting this in to "make believe."
I have heard that there aro mothers and fathers who do not seem to
care whut happens to their children, but you may know that thero is a great
big man down at the Evening Leiioer offico who weighs 220 pounds. He is
your friend nnd is willing to fight for you even if it takes policemen, militia,
United States Aimy, airships and navy to protect you.
Now, isn't it lovely to think that you have somebody to tell your troubles
to, who is really interested in you?
