In Vera Cruz last night after an absence
of two yeats, with a warm welcomo nnd
nn elaborate ceremony. It was the flrat
visit of Senora Madero since the depar
ture of her and her family from Mexico
soon after tho assassination of her hus
band by hirelings of the Huerta counter
revolution in February. 1913.
Senora Mndero was met at Villa da
Guadelupo by General Pable Gonzales,
representing the Chief Executive of the
do facto Government, Venustlano Car
ranza. The freedom of the city was ex
tended to her In the name of tho new
Government. Speeches wero mads by
General Gonzales and members of the
delegation with him. In which attention
waa called to the fact that the Consti
tutionalist Government has endeavored
and will continue to endeavor to bring
about the realization of those Ideals for
which Francisco I. Madero gave his life,
nnd that tho nnmo of her husband will
romaln forever on the list of tho Illus
trious patriots of Mexico, together with
Hidalgo, Mcrelos, Guerrero and Juarez.

Thanksgiving dinner In Home," waa the
declaration made today by Porter Charl
ton, tho young American who waa found
guilty of wife-murder with extenuating
circumstances, and only has 23 days to
serve, dating from yesterday.
"I havo been through a terrible ordeal,
but I am a happy man today," said Charl
ton. "I want to go back home to my
father and begin life all over again."
It haa becomo known thnt Charlton was
Involved In n Jail-breaking plot early this
year. At the last minute Charlton backed
down and refused to leavo the Jail. Somo
of the prisoners did escape, one of them
eventually reaching the United States.
Chnrlton told the prison authorities that
he had assisted his fellow prisoners to
escape because they wero In for long
terms ind ho felt sorry for them.

gressman Fess, of Ohio, Is one of tho
prominent Ilgures nt the sessions of the
Institute of the teachers of Chester Coun
ty, now in progress here. Ho Is giving a
review of tho causes and conditions of the
European war. He appears at each ses
sion. Prizes were awarded today following
yesterdays stock Judging contest. In which
all the teachers were entitled to take part.
As subjects, three line Percheron horses
from the Delchester Farm of Dr. Thomas
ABhton, and a prize Jersey cow from
Herman Hoopcs farm were used. The
teachers were given scorecards on whtqh
thoy registered the points as they saw
them. The Judges awarded Miss Emma
W. Werstler, Malvern, first place, and
Miss Orpha A. Wltzler, of Parkesburg,
second place.
The devotional exercises this morn
ing wero conducted by Dr. Washington S.

week Instead of going homo to spend tha
