$6,000,000 GAIN FOR
P. R. R. IN STEEL DEAL
Schwab Closes for Pennsylva
nia Steel Stock nt Cost
of $49,533,000
Charles M. Schwab and his associates,
when they pay over $49,51.000, will own
tho Pennsylvania filed Company, It Is
declared today on authority high in finan
cial circles.
The board of directors of the Pennsyl
vania Company, through which the Pcnn
slvanln Hallroad holds a controlling In
terest In the Btccl company, arranged tho
transaction yesterday at their special
meeting, It i8 declared, nlthough no of
ficial announcement has yet been made.
Through possession of the great Pcnn
slvanla Steel Company, which operates
tho Steclton, Pa., works, and tho Spar
rows Point. Md., shlpard, Schwab will
bo able to form a merger with tho Ileth
lehem Steel Corporation, of which ho Is
tho, head, which will make It one of
tho strongest organizations In this coun
try or In the world.
A profit of $6,000,000 hns been made by
the PciiiiBjlvnnla Itallroad on the trans
action, because of tho business acumen of
President Samuel Itea, It Is declared.
According to tho information available,
the iVnnsjlvnnla Company directors au
thorized the sale of $17,131,000 of the $31,
310.GO0 stock owned bv tho Pennsylvania
Itnllrond Interests for some jears. Kor
tho Pennsjlvpnla Itallroad holdings, for
the $1,000,000 prefeircd and $3,100,000 com
mon stock held by the Heading Iron Com
pany, a subsidiary of tho Heading Com
pany, nnd for stock held by nn all others
the buying prices nro $100 per share for
the preferred and $35 per share for the

Action taken more thnn a year ngo by
President Ilea has worked out so that
the rennslvanla Railroad realizes $6,
000,000 more In the snle of Its big Penn
sylvania Steel Interests than would have
been obtained one year ago. Ho put
William H. Donncr on his mettle to win
for himself a $1,000,000 accomplishment
prize. This prize was won last month,
when Mr. Donner got B6.260 shares of
Cnmbrla Steel stock nt $50 per share
Mr. Donner Ilrst had to create a situ
ation which has enabled tho Pennsyl
vania to sell from its balance hold at
good prices. Thus the Pennsylvania
stands to win $10 to $20 a sharo more for
nearly 100,000 shares than It would gladly
have taken ono jear ago for tho 450,000
shares then owned

See Them Today
Sixteen of the most beautiful homes you
ever saw await your choosinp today.
They'ro at Bala-Cynwyd, only six miles
from Broad Street Station. No two of
them alike yet each having some ono
touch not found in the other. Spanish,
Dutch, Colonial, English each built
from stone taken from our own quarries,
and by skilled labor engaged and paid
by us. Not a wished-for detail lacking
in their construction and unlooked-for
touches of beauty on every floor.
Scott's Beautiful Homes at Bala-Cynwyd
Tho homes are situated in the very pret
tiest part of Bala-Cynwyd on Latches
Lane, Upland Terrace, Union Ave. and
Edge Hill Road. We have a beautiful
booklet shQvying the - sixteen homes
which we would gladly send on request
but better yet, come out today and
see them. Take Pennsylvania Railroad
to Bala or Cynwyd, or Market Street
Elevated to oza .street; men liaia car -fu;
to city linc a five cent fare.
