rules of the State Hoard of Moving Pic
ture Censors, announced today, are much
more stringent than those In force and
tvhlch have aroutcd much resentment
among movlng-plcture operators. The
rules, say the censors, nro designed "to
keep motion pictures attuned to public
opinion." They were framed Jointly by
J. Louis Breltlnger, Mrs. E. C. Nlver ami
Ellis P. Oberholtzer, the members of the
board, and are based on the observations
and experiences of the board slnco Its
creation.
Sacrilege and allied subjects ate for
bidden, and the board docs not consider
uee and effect of hablt-formlng d ukb or
stenes which cast discredit on tho mar
rlirjo vows as proper subjects lor tho
"movies." Slapstick comedies aio per
mitted. If proper, and tho costuming Is
to be subject to censorship, Pio'onged
passionate love scenes are frowned upon,
and the ccneors say that "frank exposure
of the person" may, from tho stumpo nt
of the movies, be less objectionable than
"partial exposure."
Infidelity and sex problems must be care
fully handled and underworld, objection
able dances, questionable rcsnrlu mid
the like. If permitted at all, will be for
tho moral effect and then only In such
manner as not to excite tho beholder to
temptation. "Bar room scenes, drinking
and drunkenness" have their place on
the screen, but must be brief and handled
with discretion. Women and drinking
may be all right In places and all wrong
In others. Such scenes are frowned upon,
although at times permlssable. Crime,
death and grewsome scenes must not be
dwelt upon at length and deeds of vio
lence tending toward debasement of
morals will bo discouraged. All manner
of suggesttveness and vulgarity must be
eliminated and even posters to be placul
In front of theatres must bear the stamp
of the censors' approval before they can
be hung.

REV. B .T. CALLEN
Secretary of Philadelphia M. E. Con
ference for 16 Years
An Illness lasting two years has caused
the dentil of the nev. B. T. Calten, of
430 Aspen street. Until til health neces
sitated his resignation he was pastor of
the Forty-third Street Methodist Epis
copal Church. 43d and Aspen streets, and
secretary of the Philadelphia Confcrenco
of the Methodist Episcopal Church. H
had held the latter position 16 years.
A nervous breakdown occurred shortly
after the clergyman assumed charge of
the West Philadelphia church In April,
1X13, and several months later he re
signed. He has been under treatment for
several months In a sanitarium.
Funeral services will be held Monday
afternoon In the Forty-third Street
church Interment will be In Bethlehem.
The Itev. Mr. Callen Is survived by a
widow ahd the following children' Cope
land Callen, a professor at the Univer
sity of Illinois; Arthur Callen, an in
structor at Lehigh University, and Miss
Edna Callen, a teacher In the Baltimore
public schools.
Mr. Callen entered the Philadelphia
jonference In 1881. He has held charges
In the West York Street Church and the
Emmanuel Church, of this city, and St.
Peter's Methodist Episcopal Church In
Bethlehem,
DANIEL GILBERT ENDY
Member of Union League Succumbs
to Heart Disease
. Heart disease caused the death ahnrdv
before midnight last night of Daniel Gil
bert Endy. president of the Artman
Trtlchler Company, and a member of the
Union League. Death occurred after an
evening spent reading the newspapers at
his home. 3341 North lth street He was
especially Interested In the outcome of
tho game between the Phillies and lied
vi3ox yesterday, and had made plans for
attending the game today.
Mr Endy was a member of the Catholic
Church of the Holy Souls, Tioga. He was
one of the most active members of the
Philadelphia Credit Men's Association,
and was president for several terms. Mr.
Endy had been connected with the Art
manTTreichler Arm for more than 40
years. He started there as a salesman
and gradually worked his way upward
until he became the head of the Arm.
He Is survived by a widow and five chil
