It wftS prepared for something un otual. and, with one exception, It got It KlnO tho Triangle's inception every move of the GrlflUh-Ince'Sennctt forces, generated by II. E. Altken, has been mas terly, from advertising campaigns to the tedecoratlon of theatres. Philadelphia 'cot proof enough of their minute care lilt night In tho refurbishing of the Chestnut Street Opera House. Every thing was a pleasant neutral gray, except the red of the scats. Tho scats, bo It remarked, were new and plump, and tho revs far enough apart tn make passage niler than In any other Philadelphia theatre. Tho ushers, though they disap pointed the audience over the IVAtglon builness. had on an odd and pretty cos tame. There was on excellent orchestra behind gray hangings and a gray cur- Uln effectively set on Dy mo rea ana green trlanBlcs. -Everything, up to the moment the lights rent out and reels began to turn was wu nleh perfect After that thero was iutt one blemish on the evening the Ince F feature, "Tho Iron Strain." It proved to K he nothing moro man mo most common- k ,.M Af Alma, tint flt all thn wnrk Tnr bu proved he can do by such dramas ns The Battle of Gettysburg" and "The Nljbt Stage." Its story Pctruchlo stuff on the order of "The Misleading Lady hadn't a slnglo appealing emotion to mike up for a plot without striking or original Incident, excellent photography and good ensemble hardly compensated for this or for the heaviness of Dustln Famum and tho doll-baby triteness of EnldMarkey. Louisa Glaum was the one litlifactlon. The rest of tho program retrieved A I bad start. "My Valet" was all that a Keystone uiraeoy ougnt 10 do. ine lact that Raymond Hitchcock changed places lth his valet to avoid a prospective fiancee wasn't half so Important as tho fact that Mack Sennett was the valot and put the whole cast through some typically Sennettlan adventures. Thoy poured goldfish bowls Into their hats, got swept away by the surf, bumped each other with golf bags, broke all the china and ran Into a few dozen trolleys and automobiles" One particularly well-staged scene snowca master ana man blown and shaken to bits on a fast express. Mabel Normand was quite her old self. The third and final feature had tho stamu of Grlfllth on It, though tho pro- gram honestly admitted W. Christy Ca- hanne as mo producer, it took Douglas Fairbanks and his character", "The lamb," out of tho revival of "The Hen- nneua- ana Bnovea mem into some most I.mIII.i hnltla. ..rt.li Vn..l T.ll 1 Mexico, Mr. Fairbanks contributed some original and vigorous .gymnastics, such at jumping on an assailant from a house top. But Mr. Grlfllth'a part was the battle on tho cactus-tufted desert, with Yaquls crawling through the underbrush and Fairbanks pumping a machine gun Into them until the cavalry arrived. Accidents will happen, and It's a fore gone conclusion that future programs .trilt Improve on "The Iron Strain." It U only to be hoped that they can keep to tho pace of "My Valet" and "Tho Lamb."
