TWILIGHT SLEEPS FILMS

The Courts Now Arguing Over

Which Many Prrtise
By the Photoplay Editor
Tho New York courts are trying to de

the "twilight sleep" shall be exhibited In
New York. The license commissioner has
Interfered with their showing. Now th"
Medical Review of Reviews, the film's pro
prietor, asks court Interference to permit
the exhibition.
Tho plaintiff In the action contends thera
Is no sound reason why the picture should
not be shown In New York, as It had been
accepted In various other cities throughout
the United States. Attached to ftio court
papers Is a letter from Mayor A. B.
Wooldrldge, of Austin, Tex,, addressed "To
Whom It May Concern," and reading aa
jouowsi
"Last evening, at the Res-mar Theatre
In this city, I witnessed an exhibition of
what Is designated as the "Twilight
Bleep.' A very full, Intelligent, but not
technical, lecture by Vr. K. H. Hchlosslng
preceded the moving pictures. The lectura
and plcturos were entirely modest and be
coming to any audience. In any com
munity. I commend the lecture of Doc
tor Schlosslng and the moving pictures
thaf follow It to the Interest of any en
lightened community wishing Information
gn the vltar matter of the birth of our
children."
The plaintiff's lawyer eaya; "When we
started to show this picture In New Or
leans there was some objection, and the
Mayor of that city appointed five women
as a committee to pass upon Its merits.
The committee unanimously approved of
the ploture, and It was thereafter pre
sented before mixed audiences In New
Orleans. In suctn cities as Norwich,
Bridgeport, Hartford and Mlddletown,
Conn., there was not a single puritanical
whisper against the picture.
"It wag also seen and favorably ac
cepted by mixed audiences in Waco,
Austin, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Tex.,
and-fTiany other cities, Including Wash
ington. D, C; Springfield, liolyoke and
Worcester, Mass.
"There Is no exposure of any part of
the body except the faee and hands. The
accompanying lecture la by Doctor
Schlosslng, one of tho leading obstetri
cians and gynecologists of Germany, We
make his affidavit a part of our moving
pictures, along with scores f letters of
commendation,
"Mr. Bell bases his objection pn the
public treatment of the subject, He .does
not stop to think that It has already
been exploited In hundreds of newspa
pers throughout tha eountry,"
