The company Is understood to bo estab lishing new high records In the mat--ter of shipments nnd earnings. The shipments of finished products nro re reported to be at the rate, of more thnn 100,090 tons n manth. or 1,200,000 tons annually, which will beat the 1913 record of 1,050,000 tons. Earnings In that year scored n high record of $7,579,813. For tho last three years Cambria has been second only to tho United States Steel Corporation .In the matter of shipments. In Its best year, 1913, tho company showed 13.S5 per cent, earned on tho stock. In the late dealtngs Cambria crossed SI, As was to be expected, the rlso was ac companied by talk of the exercising of Frlck option on the Fcnnsylvanla tho Railroad holdings nt C0 per share. This was followed by upblddlng of Pennsyl vania Steel preferred and tho revival of merger gossip. "Usually well Informed In terests, however, were more Inclined to be lieve the upblddlng of Cambria rnlftht bo for the purpose of facilitating the disposal of tho (5,000,000 treasury stock nt pnr. Approximately 15,000 shares changed hands today. At one time Pennsylvania Steel preferred was up 3Vi points from Tuesday's final figures. Belief that the dividend on Electric Storage Battery would not be raised at this time, coupled with a feeling that for tho time being at lenst the general bull movement In the mnrkct had come to a halt, was responsible for another out burst of selling orders In Electric Stor age Bnttery on the local oxchnnge this morning, which carried tho quotation back about 4 points, making a total re action of approximately 8 points from last week's top prices. The selling, however, was largely In the nature of Profit tak ing, and was doubtless for tho account of a New York pool, at lenst In part. It Is worthy of note that nil through the recent rise Philadelphia nas been a seller, while Wall street was doing most of the buying. After selling down from 74 to "OVt the Btock rallied about half way back around noon. The dividend meet ing will bo held Wednesday of next week. The general local list was not especially active, but the undertone was steady, with moderate Inquiry for Lake Superior. Lehigh Navigation and some of tho utility issues, such as Union Traction and Philadelphia Electric. United States Steel was active but Irregular, Cramp Shipbuilding declined a dollar and Phila delphia Company preferred 1V4. General Asphalt preferred also eased oft. If this wcro a delibernte breach ot fnlth, futtiro penci negotiations with the pres ent Oermnn Government would b lm COrflblc. Our exchange problem nnd its difficul ties are gradually becoming understood here, but none aeema to have perceived that sales to your side necessarily di minish your power to lend us money. What you want, of course, Is consumable commodities. From this standpoint, gold Is better for you thnn bonds as being moro renalable, and for us gold has tho great advantage that commodities bought with gold are bought presumably without exchange loss. Tho names of the financial mission have new been published, nnd It is hoped they will be able to effect some permanent Im provement. Harvest weather hero continues good.
