Announcement of tho resumption of
cash dividends by tho Cambria Btccl
Company this morning, although gener
ally expected In the financial district,
created a distinctly favorable Improsslon.
The directors declared the regular quar
terly JW per cent. It Is Just a year ngo
since the last cash dividend wan paid,
slnco that time the company having is
sued S per cent. Interest-bearing scrip.
Tho market price of the stock was not
materially affected, as tho Street doubt
loss, had pretty thoroughly discounted the
now. Thnt the Cambria board would
not havo declared tho present dividend In
casli hnd they not been satisfied with tho
business outlook goes without saying, The
necessity for strengthening cash resources,
which was tho reason for Issuing scrip,
ns well as reduced earnings at that time,
hug passed. The dividend Just declared
fi mounts to 1382.GO0.
Tho real features of the Philadelphia
market were Baldwin Locomotive, which
went to a new high record, and Cramp
Shipbuilding, which Jumped 4 points.
Baldwin touched 77 on heavy buying
around noon. Tho regular monthly meet
ing, which was to have been held today,
was postponed owing to tho absenco from
tho city of several directors. Tho no
iiicotlnK will bo held In August. A three
point rleo In Pennsylvania Hteel preferred
wm established on tho purchase of 110
shares. In the final dealings Baldwin
reacted to 7W, whero It closed.
Better support appeared for Tonopah
Mining shnrcs and tho prlco rallied a
rrnctlon. On tho other hand. York
Hallways common and preferred turned
weak and fell about a point each, but tho
preferred was selling cx-dlvldend. Inter
est In Pennsylvania Railroad shares was
aroused by tho report that tho recent
liquidation of the stock was not entirely
Win i for foreign account, but had nlso been
traced to tno Adams Express Compnny
which, according to Its last annual report,
held something like $4,000,000 par value of
Pennsylvania shares. It Is said that this
block has been considerably reduced In
recent months.
With icspect to Tonopah Mining It Is
by no means absolutely ccrtnln that tho
noxt dividend will bo reduced. An ofll-
clnl of tho compnny stated this morning
thnt should there bo nny marked Im
provement In the prlco of sliver beforo
uctlon was necessary on tho next pay
ment tho dividend might not bo chnngod
and that the board at present enn not
yet tell definitely what will bo done.
