War Keeps Society People in U. S.
The war has caused a great change In
the "Summer Social Register." Last year
878 American families were to bo found
at foreign residences, while this year
there are but 208, a reduction of 75 per
cent After April 1 last year S52 families
went abroad, while only 44 went abroad
this year. Last year there were 237
foreign arrivals, but the conflict In Eu
rope has caused the number to dwindle to
27 this year. Eighty-four families from
Eastern cities are recorded at country
residence on the Pacific Coast. This is
due undoubtedly to the fairs at San
Diego and San Francisco. According to
the social records, 142 families are sum
mering on their yachts.

Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester this
morning paid Its last tribute to Arch
bishop James Edward Qulgley, of Chi
cago, who died hero lato Saturday after
noon. While thousands ot Rochester
men and women of various creeds and

Cathedral, a Solemn Pontifical Mass of
Requiem was offered up by tho Right Rev.
Thomas F Hlckey, Bishop of the dloseco

Rochester members of the clergy from all

city in tho State was represented at tho
services In tho cathedral. From 6 until
