had received a largo order for batteries
to equip submarines. The president of
this company, however, IseUod n. state
ment to tha effect that tha order was not
unusual and that the plant was merely
operating at about normal capacity, but
the outlook was very encouraging.
Another Important private sale of
Cramp Bhlpbulldlne shares was a second
Item of Interest. It Is understood that
the samo New York people who took
over tho block of 7000 shares from tho
Crump estate was tho purchaser of tho
second block, which Is understood to havo
been 1000. The stock was to bo sold at
auction today, but a special arrangement
was made through Chandler Brothers for
the private sale. On change tho quota
tion eased off.
Announcement of the Incorporation of
the American Steel Export Company as
a subsidiary of the Cambria Steel Com
pany did not Influence the market In tho
latter stock. It Is understood that tho
now concern, us Us name Implies, will
handle Cambria's export ouslness, but
In addition will also embrnco certain
commodities of other American manu
facturers, It Is capitalized at K00.0CO.
Philadelphia Electrlo securities wero
not nitceted by tho order of the State
Public Service Commission requiring that
a complete Inventory and appraisement
of tho property bo filed with tho ebm
mlsalon by August 3. The company hail
contended It could not complete the work
until October.
In tho afternoon Baldwin Locomotive
turned heavy, losing about a point. lke
Buperlor, on tho contrary, showed
strength, as did Lehigh Navigation. Bonds
wero active. The passage through Coun
cils of tho new Jitney ordinance fixing a
J2T.00 bond and (50 license was without
effect upon the local traction stocks.
The Heading companies' May report
was a disappointment chlofly owing to
tho poor showing of the Coal and Iron
Company which made out a lots of UC,
371 for tho month against a profit of
"(100,552 In the corresponding period a
year ago. Interest and taxes Increased
so that the deficit for tho. month was
brought to 117,373. Taking tho three
companies together there was a falling
oft in surplus of (219,027 and for 11 months
tho falling on In surplus was tl,S05,7S5, as
compared with the corresponding period
last year.
