Automobile Company announces that tho
wages of its 10.S0O employes mill be advanced
0 per cent beginning July IB. The Increase
Is voluntary. It will add 32o.O0O to the
yearly payroll, according to the announce
ment. The ctty of Newport, R. I., will receive
bids until 5 p. m. July 1 for purchase ot
a temporary loan ot JCO.OOO.
Pittsburgh Bteel manufacturers have re
ceived contracts for more than tMO.OOO
worth of structural steel, to bo used by
the Thompson-Btarrett Company in con
struction of the new J4.000.000 rolic street
freight terminal of the Pennsylvania
Company In Chicago.
As indicative of the demand for ma
chine tools by companies having; war
orders, the Nlles-Bement-Pond Company
has been receiving- orders since tho first
nt tho year at the rate of J1.000.000 a
month, or 20 per cent, above capacity,
which is about JiO.000,000 a year. Some
of the company's plants are booked ahead
for virtually two years. The company's
contracts at the present time probably
