CRAMP SHIPBUEDING
AGAIN WENT SKYWARD
Brill Preferred, General As
phalt anfl Pennsylvania Join
ed in Uplift.
N'ot until the nftcrnoon session did
trading become active on the local ex
change today. Demand wns very tight
In the morning, and then was an lit
cllniu.on to toi.ow 1110 iead of the New
York market, where Business a. so was
smaller, nhd price changes here were of
on Irregular sort, tho same as In New
York. Attendance In tho commission
houses, for the most part, was fairly
largo.
During tho morning the market was
the quietest here In some time, or slnco
the great activity of the local war order
shares, Cramp's, Baldwin and Lake Supe
rior. About the most active one of this
group was Lake Superior, but It did not
brighten up until well on toward the end
of tho first hour, when It went 34 higher.
In the very early dealings, Cramp's de
clined 60 cents to 6D, nt which point it
met support and rallied, crossing 60 for
a gain of TS cents. Baldwin was also up
a small fraction before midday.
Vigorous bidding for cramp shares
after midday sent Hint Issue on another
skyward tour, rising until It reached 66U,
an advance of B4 for the day. This,
with J. a. Ilrlll preferred, which scored
nn ndvance of J3 to is, were the only
features during the afternoon session,
although prices In general were better
ttmn in the" morning. The rise In Ilrlll
w"us thought to be a belated response to
the large war orders which tho company
hua booked for tho Allies, consisting
largely of the manufacture of shells. Tho
list previous sale of Ilrlll was about a
munth ago. Pennsylvania Salt and Phila
delphia, Germantown and Norrlstown
each moved up u dollar. Oenernl Asphalt
common coma Into prominence In tho tlnal
dealings, moving up 2. Tho market
closed strong.
Of the arbitrage division Steel Common
was tho most active, being up nearly Hi,
while Pennsylvania Hallroad came second
and was slightly lower. Ilopld Transit
stock and trust cortlOcntes uld not re
spond to tho neWB that the company's
motormep and conductors nro circulating
a petition which will be presented to
Councils, asking for some legislation for
tho regulation of the Jitneys. Business
was also small In tho bond division.

AFTER EARLY BREAK
Export Demand Dull at Pres
entCorn Buyers Selling.
Weather Reports Good.
CHICAUO, June le.-Dollar wheat, the
delight of the farmer's heart a year ago,
but dismaying today, continued to hold
forth on Ihe exchange In the oarly hours
of tiodlng. Sep.eiTitier opened at $1.004
nnd advanced to $1.0tJ before hoon. It
soon declined. Operators on the wrong
side of the fence rejoiced at the strength
after the opening, all Brains gaining
over the closing figures of yesterday.
At tho close July showed a gain of 2
cents for the day, nt $1.04H. ahd Septem
ber was nrnrly as much, at $1.024.
It was said that the bears who hnve
been beating prices down for three weeks
had been routed nnd a' hotter tone was
looked for. Several big bears announced
that they weie not through and that they
Intended to bring tho price down to a
level where oxporters would not bo able
to resist the temptation to buy. When
$1 was reached todny, the tendency was
to stop buying, as this was looked upon
as tho minimum price to lhduce tho ex
porter to buy.
Export demand for wheat at the pres
ent Is dull, but there Is an active de
mand for oats. Cash houses have un
loaded July wheat and are taking up the
surplus supply of oats against seaboard
salra.
It was reported that 100,000 bushels of
June oats have been sold from 8 to 4
cents moro per bushel than July, and It
Is dllllcult to procure more.
Corn buyers are unloading, which gives
the product a weak undertone. Interest
centres on oats, which will, aocordlng to
expectations, buoy the rest of the mnrkct.
Weather reports from foreign countries
have been about as favorable as the re
ports from this country, The Liverpool
market was weak, following the trend of
tho Amencnn market.
Tho advent of $1 wheat means M to 92
cents for farmers In tho Central Western
States. This Is considerably less than
they had counted on, and they may with
hold shipments for a rise.
