STOCKHOLDERS VOTE TO QUIT
Formally Ratify Directors' Action to
Dissolve Company.
JERSEY CITY. N. J., June 7. The dis
solution of the Amalgamated Copper Com
pany and tho exchange of Its stock fo
double the number of shares of the An
aconda Copper Mlnlns Company was
voted today at a meetlnc of Amalgamated
stockholders here.
The action was merely the formal ratlfl
cation of the dissolution resolution pre
sented by the board of directors some
tlmo ago.
The Amalgamated Copper Company Is
capitalized at 1168.887,900. At today's meet
ing 1,169,747 of the 1,638,879 shares were
represented and the vote was unanimous
for dissolution.
A small cash payment will be paid for
Amalgamated stock In addition to the
Anaconda shares.

ment of Commerce today reported the
foreign trade balance of the cnlted States
In April wan :4,10.000, Imports for the
month having been 8100,876,000 and exports
$291,748,000. In April, 1014, the Imports
were J173,TI12,0 and exports JIM.MI.OOO.
For the ten months ending with April,
exports were ,:35,O00,0OO, against K.Oii,
000,000. For the ten months, It was stated, ex
ports of manufactured articles were less
than normal, despite war orders, though
foodstuff exports wero enormously In
creased. Horses wero exported In April to the
value of 17.CS5.0O0. and In the ten months,
J47.IS3.0O0.

Edward M. Hyde, formerly president of
the Bath, Me., Iron Works, hns an
nounced that he and his associates have
arranged for tho building of a $5,000,000
shipbuilding plant at Mobile, securing the
steel and other material from the Bir
mingham district. Mr. Hyde promises to
have plant construction begun within a
few weeks. Ocean-going craft is to be

Heavy buying of Baldwin Locomotive
and Cramp Shipbuilding shares wan the
outstanding feature of an olherwlie unln
tereitlng session on the Fhlladelp'hla
Stock Exchange today. Bidding for bath
pf these Issues set In right at the open
ing and before the first hour had elapse
Baldwin had risen from 61 to El. It sub'
equently extended Its advance further.
Meantime Cramps had jumped to a new
high record at 47, Up S points from last
night. The locomotive company shops
are now said to be operating virtually
on full time and the roported contract
with the Itemlngton Arms Company Is
considered one or the best strokes of busi
ness that has been .done by any local
concern in a long time. New York house
were buyers of the stock here this morn
Ing.
As already stated the remainder of the
list merely marked time.
Union Traction failed to be stimulated
by a bullish letter on the stock circulated
by a prominent brokerage firm. After
discussing Its market position the state
ment goes on to say that: "We believe
that we are correctly stating the facts
when we say that the large holdings of
Union Traction stock remain Intact, and
that the selling which has occurred re
cently hns been by small Investors who
are ignorant of the facts and the strength
of tho company's position, and by attacks
from professional traders. After the
regular dividend' was announced Union
hardened slightly.
Conditions In the bond market show Im
provement as a result of the June re
investment demand. Following the news
ot the United States Steel decision the
public developed somewhat more confi
dence in security values and this was re
flected especially In over-the-counter
bond business. It Is now believed that
the bringing out of new Issues will soon
be resumed. For a month or more this
has been conspicuously missing. Mean
time money keeps on piling up In tho
batiks. This week reserves rose sbma
seven millions, due to heavy Increases
In deposits, which doubtless represented
first of the month Interest and dividend
payments.
