lon Cricket Ctub here today. Mrs. Mc
Lean, who was Miss Helen Homnns and
vho won tho national championship In
3M7, won today In straight setsi 6-0, 6-2.
In the) first set the champion had every
thing her own way and In tho entlro set

Thayer was surprisingly good In the
first set. and the pair from tho Phila
delphia Cricket Club won It by six games
two, When they obtained an early
lid In the second set It looked ns If
hey might go Into the final In straight
Rets. Eventually Miss Cassell and John
son won the sets by eight games to six.
Miss Dlsston nnd Thayer won tho first
tramo of tho deciding set nnd tho others
repaid by taklnp; tho next gnmc.
On Thayer's service this side won the
third game, and nlthough they brought
tho scorn of tho fourth game to deuco
with Johns serving, the other side won
tho gamo nnd the score was two all.
Johnson's lino covering of tho court was
responsible, ho nnd his partner breaking
through Miss Dlsston's service, and won
the fifth game.
They won on Miss Cassell's service,
making the scoro four games to two In
favor of Miss Cassell and Johnson. With
Thayer serving, Johnson and his partner
won again, Thayer serving a double
fnult for tho final point This made the
score of the third Bet live games to two,
nnd with Johnson serving Miss Dlsston
and Thayer won, bringing tho score to
five games to three. Johnson and Miss
Cassell then won tho next game, nnd
captured the set and match. Scores, 2-G,
8-0, 0-3. They play Mrs. D. Paul and
Edgar Scott in tho final.

Motorists of this city have responded
generously to the appeal of Director of
Publlo Safety Porter to co-operate with
the city authorities In making the annual
Orphans' Day outing a huge success this
year. More than MO motorcars and trucka
have already been pledged to carry the
children from the various orphan homes
to Willow Grovo and return next Tues
day. Director Porter said this morning that
SXi additional cars and trucks were still
needed to provide transportation for the
total of 2400 children who have been look.

William G. Baker
William O. Baker, for half n century
associated with tho Esterbrook Pen Com
pany, died nt his home, 607 Pearl street,
Camden, yestorday. He was 00 years old,
and was ono of tho first to enter tho
employ of the Estcrbrook plant. He was
born In England. Surviving him are his
son, Dr. W. I. Baker, of Connecticut,
nnd two daughters, Mrs. Alice B. Wood
and Mrs. William Hawkins, of this city.
Tho funeral services will take place Mon
day afternoon from his late residence.
Col. 'William E. Van Wyck
NEW YORK, Juno 5. Colonel William
E. A'an Wyck, veteran of tho Civil War
nnd n member of C. F. Hubbs & Co., pa
per merchants, Is dead at his home hero.
In 1362 he became captain In the 131st
Regiment, New York Volunteer Infnntry,
and with his regiment accompanied Sher
man on his famous march to tho sco. Ho
look part In tho battles of Cedar Creek,
Fort Bisland nnd Port Hudson, and for
his bravery was breveted lieutenant col
onel and finally colonel. Ho was ono of
tho founders of tho New York Athletic
Club and Its first president.

Timothy J. Brosnahan, S. J professor
of ethics at Loyola College, Baltimore,
died yesterday at Georgetown Univer
sity .Hospital here, of Brlghfs disease
and arterial sclerosis. Since he wns
ordained In 15S5 ho had been assigned to
Georgetown, Loyola, Fordham, Boston
nnd other colleges of the order. He was
president of Boston College and a promi
nent member of the Society of Jesus
