enact a fall from his horse, and at the
third trial, because of the nervousness of
his mount, waa thrown, dislocating his
hip. He underwent an operation that was
successful and was preparing to remount
to continue the scene when news of the
probable loss of Mr. Hubbard reached
him. His own hurt sank Into Insignifi
cance at tho nevrs, as only a few day
before he sailed Mr. Hubbard selected
Mr. McQarry as the one to carry "A
Message to Garcia'1 In pictures.
The Vltagraph Company Js negotiating
through Mr. McQarry, with the Hubbard
estate for Us production, and It Is within
the bounds of probability he wilt be seen

Tho Reading Convention
Details have Just been announced of
tho elaborate plans for the entertainment
that Is to bo provided for the delegates
and others who will attend the conven
tion of tho Motion Picture Exhibitors'
League of Pennsylvania, to be held in
Reading on June 7, S and 9.
The entertainment of visiting exhibit
ors and their friends will be the main
feature of the gathering. While the pic
ture men are In business session the
Ladles' Reception Committee, appointed
by Ben II, Zerr, president of the State
League, will have charge of tho visiting
women. Mrs. J, Q. Hansen has been
chosen to head tho committee. Other
members of the committee Include Mrs.

The Reading exhibitors have arranged
for a ball on Tuetday night, June 8, In

All About Mary Charlcsort
Mary Charleaon, the little Lubln star,
la one of Hie most popular players In tho
big studio because of her fun-loving dis
position Sho sprang a new one this week.
Having a few hours between scenes, one
morning, miss Charleson made up as a
scrub woman, and getting a bucket, mop
and duster, returned to the studio.
So complete was tho make-up that even
John Ince, her director, didn't recognize
her. Sho worked about tho studio for some
time and then went upstairs Into the
scenario room nnd began scrubbing the

dfsks, but no one paid any attention to

Walthall Signs With Essanay
Henry B. Walthall has signed a con
tract with the Cssonay company to bo
starred In their V. L. 8. E. features,
which will be made in Los Angeles. He
will be remembered for his mastorly
work in "Tho Avenging Conscience" and
"The Birth of a Nation."

PLANS DISCUSSED
Commission Appointed by Gov
ernor Prepares Plans for Ob
servance of Day.
Plana for tho national Fourth of July
celebration were discussed this afternoon
6y tho commission appointed by Gov
ernor Brumbaugh, which met In tho of
fice of Representative CharieB A. Ambler,
Speaker of the House, In the Harrison
Building.
Numerous suggestions wero mado with
a view of making the occasion worthy
of tho great event which It commemo
rates. Several members of the commis
sion also favored tho Idea of having a
Progress Day celebration In connection
with tho affair which would tell tho his
tory of Philadelphia. Regret was ex
pressed that President Wilson would bo
unable to attend, but Congressman Vare
told tho commission ho had been assured
by the President that another speaker,
possibly a member of the Cabinet, would
be provided.
The commission appointed a committee
which will co-operato with Councils'
Fourth of July Committee in arranging
details. In addition to those mentioned,
the following were present:
Representative James A. Dunn, who In
troduced tho bill In the Legislature which
brought about the State's co-operation;
Edward Bok, Richard Y. Cook. C. Tyson
Kratz, of Norrlstown; E. J. Lafferty,

Dr. R. Tnlt McKenzle, physical director
of the University of Pennsylvania and
soulptor of renown, provided the original
work when ho created "The Joy of Ef
fort," a medallion In bas-relief, which
was placed over tho entrance of tho
Stockholm stadium In which tne Olympto
games were held In 1912. The artful, If
not artistic, alteration was made by the
Far Eastern Athtotlo Association, which
recently conducted championship gamoa
at Hongkew Park, Shanghai, China, in
which S00 of the best athlotcs of China,

BOOTBLACK STEALS SHOES
Patron Fell Asleep While Getting
Shine Offender Captured.
The sensation of having his shoes
shlned had a soothlnc effect on Thomas
JIcLoughlln, of 2121 East Lehigh avenue,
and ho fell asleep last night. When he
awoke his stockinged feet were resting on
the supports and his Bhoes were gone.
So was the bootblack. McLoughlln's
cries for help attracted Policeman Wled
enberg, of tho Trenton avenuo and
Dauphin streets station, who pursued the
Shoeshlncr. Ho was captured and brought
back to McLoughlln, who Identified the
shoes on the man's feet. The bootblacik
gave his name as ltlchard Matlack, of
2235 Coral street.

to tho Pennsylvania Railroad Company.
It represented the proceeds of tho salo of
tho $65,000,000 Pennsylvania Railroad Com
pany general mortgage 4VS per cent. bondH,
which were offered for salo by Kuhn,
Loeb & Co. on May 7.
The bonds were sold by tho bankers at
98'i per cent, and accrued Interest, and
yesterday was tho day stipulated for tho
'final payment by tho subscribers to tho
bonds.

Ono of Camden's Oldest and Most
Prominent Physicians.
Dr. Harry II. Sherk, ono of Camden's
oldest and most prominent physicians
and a member of the Camden Board of
Health, died late yesterday In a private
Hospital at Chestnut Hill, He was EG
yoars old and was compelled to give up
his medical practice when ho Buffered
a stroke of paralysis last year.
Doctor Sherk was a graduate of the
