Lcwcs, Del., Bank Liquidates
WASIIINOION May 18 Announcement is
mado b the Comptroller of the Currency that
the I.encs National Rank, of Lewes, Del , was
placed In voluntary liquidation on May 12
PHILADELPHIA MARKETS
CHICAGO, May I8.-JTJ19 poor demand
for wheat was manifested In the May
and July crop, which opened this morn
ing at $1.56 and $1.9H. respectively, show
ing no change over yesterday's close.
May wheat dropped as lotv as JL63U ahd
failed to recover In the later trading.
July showed even greater weakness, clos
ing at $L26K a loss of 2K points from
last night's final figures.
Corn quotations developed a reactionary
tendency In sympathy with wheat
Tho present corn situation Is also duo
to a poor demand, rather than to any
pronouncod pressure that may come from
foreign reports. It la tho opinion of
traders that the further speculative
movement In wheat will not come unlit ,
extreme damage to the winter crop and
a poor prospect for spring wheat can bu
conflrmod.
Estimates of 40,000.000 to 60,000,000 bush
els are being mado for the distant future
In wheat, The corn market shows signs
of runs of two to three- days' duration,
and stocks, though .till large, aro de
creasing, with not n visible heavy de
mand. Oat statistics are bullish. The bulk of
the visible supply s believed to bo cen
tred In Chicago br at the seaboard await
ing export On April 12 Chicago had
13,000.000 bushels oats, but at present Is
lioldlng 6.400,000 bUshets, showing a de
cease or b.cw.ooo bushels within the last
month
Careful Investigation shown thnt the.
damngo reports to wheat In tho affected
area have been overdrawn and that the
crop will fall only a little short of tha
bumper harvest of 3914.
Tho European visible, supply of wheat
this week Is 94,704,000 bushels, against
100.6S8.0OO bushels of last week, a decrease
of 5,884,000 bushels.
India reports general heavy rains, which
nro proving beneficial for tho soil. Arri
vals nt porta nro large and prices aro
easing. Scarcity of tonnage Is against
shipments
The crop outlook In Franco Is reported
favorable. Great dissatisfaction Is felt
with tho Government's Intention to re
quisition tho new crop. Further foreign
buying Is necessary If reserves of wheat
are to be established.
