Horticultural Hall under the auspices of
the local lodges Isaac Welner, a Phila

by Her Side.
Fear and despondency over an Impend
ing operation for cancer drove Mrs Car
rie Householder, 45 years old, of 1306 West
Auburn street, to end her life last nlcht
b Inhaling Illuminating gas, according
to her husband, John Householder, who
found her dead on tho parlor Iloor when
he toent home about 11 43 last night. A
pet dog, which hod been given to tho
couple as a wedding gift 12 years ago,
also asphyxiated, to as found near the
woman's side In the gas-fllled room
Mr. Householder said he had been to
tho German Hospital, to here he had ar
ranged for an operation on his wife for
cancer of the breast Ho reached home
shortly before midnight, no said, and
noticed a strong odor of gas as he stood
at the door Hastily letting himself In
side the house, he met overpowering
fumes emanating apparently from tho
parlor, the door of which was locked
Forcing it open, he Btumbled over tho
body of his wife In the pitch-dark
chamber The windows were closed
tightly and the shades wero drawn.
He notified the Park and Lehigh ave
nues police station and the woman was
hurried to the Samaritan Hospital Ef
forts to revise her with the pulmotor
were unavailing
Mr Householder said that while his
wife dreaded the operation she munt
undergo there was nothing In her man
ner to Indicate she contemplated suicide
when he left the houso earlier In tho
evening.
