Board of Managers certainly spared no effort
in making the decoiations tho most wonder
ful tho ball has ever had,

opening of the ball. Instead of tho grand
march, which has been In effect for many a
season, the ball was opened by the stately
dancing of tho old minuet, which, with all
Its grace and charm, Is n marked contrast
to tho danco of today.
Tho Acudemy door and stage transported
the beholder Into nn out-of-door spring tiny,
as tho decorations were garlands and sprays
of exqulslto spring flowers. Jonquils, nnrclbsl,
daisies, azaleas, lilies, nnd great cybodlum
ferns vied with one another In nddlng beauty
to tho scene.
The corridors wore transformed Into lovers'
wnlks of greenery nnd exqulslto blooms, and
the stage proper wns In the form of nn old
fnshloned garden, with narrow walks nnd do
Ilghtful old-fnshloned plants. Tho proscenium
boxes nnd smaller ones wero also entwined
with smllax nnd ferns.
A concert started tho affair, which was fol
lowed by the dancing of the minuet In the
costumcB of 1830.
The minuet was danced under tho direction
of Mrs. Joseph Sncllcnburg, Mrs. Jules E. Mast
